Windows Defender Problem.... HELP!

Thread Starter
Hey all,
I posted a thread earlier expressing my problems with a resource hog slowing down my computer. It is a process called MsMsEng.exe and I googled it and apparently its part of Microsoft's Windows Defender. Now my question is, what do I do about it? It is taking up 99% of my CPU usage and is completely bogging down my system. Is there a way to turn this process off so it never does this again? If not should I just get rid of Defender, I do have Norton Internet Security and Ad-Aware. What should I do?
Thanks!

windows defender at 99% cpu is not a good sign. mine is almost negligible. u might want to un.install it and re.install (if u want) to see what happens.

cheers ...

I had this problem, kinda.
Even though I set the darn thing to run pc checks at 6:00 am (when I'm least likely to be using it, or recording anything) it would consistently start up in a (from what I can tell) a very random fashion.
4:00pm , noon, 6:00pm.
There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I uninstalled it and then re-installed back again and the problem was cleared. The reason I think it was all screwy was the fact that I had upgraded my version to the latest beta from the first release.
That may have caused a problem with scan scheduling. It may have carried over my settings from the previous version and some how everything got mucked up. Anyway, try to uninstall it and reinstall back and see what happens.
