Ok, I am pretty computer savvy, I need a solution in steps to solve this problem, get as complicated as need be...........I have a Toshiba Tecra 780DVD, no OS I only have DOS disks but they dont support USB drives.......the laptop only has a 5GB HD, I only have a PCMCIA wireless card as internet, (that's a problem for another day), I also have two memory devices, but they're USB and each of them are 256 MB, is there a way that I can run linux on my laptop.............oh and one more thing, I cannot burn CD's and If it is necessary for me to burn one.......the iso needs to fit on one of the memory sticks (256mb), and by the way I tried DSLinux(damn small) and it wont work with my laptop, so those are all the facts................PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

you have to be able to boot of the usb to be able to run Puppy or something along the lines of that...can you boot from usb on that rig? if yes, then go get Puppy USB, boot off the usb drive then use the installer to get the sucker running.

otherwise, might wanna do a network install if you can boot of the network, which again is questionable

Distrowatch has a few distros still on floppy I think, been a while since I looked.

What didnt work on Damn Small?

Computer Saavy != Linux Saavy Nothing wrong with that, just a fact of life, windows and linux operate in completely different manners. As such you may want to clarify what your standing on linux saavy is, it may help us move along quicker.

At any rate you COULD get a friend to burn a CD, or get one of Ubuntu Shipped from Canoical, or check your local bookstore as half the books on linux, also have a linux CD in them, as well as half the linux mags have the distros they are reviewing on a DVD with the mag.

All different options for getting a CD of linux without you yourself burning it.

There are also a few distros out there designed to run off of USB, I would imagine there might be a way to install them on a HD as well, though doing so in DOS might be a problem.

You have access to no cd burners anywhere? This will be the best $29 you ever spent.
