Umm I got the AUO and my 1210 has the A/V package. Seems as though if you have ordered the A/V package you most likely will receive the AUO.

Yes. For the moment, that seems to be the case but in the future, that is hard to say...

They send a technician and he brought along an LCD panel alone. So i did request specifically for the AUO LCD, it is made in taiwan and the Toshiba is Made in China. I am located in singapore. It seems there a very positive corellation between getting and AV set = AUO lccd.

I've been certain for awhile now that the AUO screen came exclusively with the AV package. I was trying to find out if you had the standard m1210 without the AV package and Dell just gave you an AUO LCD or if they gave you the entire lid with the camera assembly. So if I am understanding you correctly, Dell gave you an AUO LCD in which you had installed in a m1210 without the AV package.

thanks for stating the obvious... Which one did they replace? Did he have an m1210 with out AV package and they upgraded him to an AUO LCD? Meaning does he currently have a m1210 without AV Package but now with an AUO LCD?

Ok so basically dell was completely unwilling to do anything for me - they told me I would have to speak to sales... well sales didnt do much so i just ordered a machine and it does indeed have the AUO, but I'm not very impressed to tell ya the truth. I mean yes, my eyes dont hurt like on the Toshiba, but it defenitely doesnt compare to the AUO on the 710m. I'm gonna try to get dell to credit me for this new machine by returning the old machine and if they're totally stubborn I'll just have to swap the screens between the two myself. Oh and btw, I dont see much difference (if any) between this screen and the samsung. Theres light leakage at the top and bottom of the screen.

Oh - last gripe - the webcam is total crap - i've never had a webcam but if this is considered good - i'll pass - what a waste of $100 bux just to get a reasonable screen@!?!

I'm gonna regardless take apart the samsung machine, the auo machine, and the 710m i have ( i already have done so for the toshiba machine) and I will try to post pics of all of them, comparison between screens, and then I will try to see if i can succeed in putting the 710m screen on my the m1210 without having ne problems like others who tried did. (i'll have to research a lot bout how these screens work...)

I'll update when i get it done :-)

I have the the M1210 without the AV package and they changed my screen to the AUO LCD

"Meaning does he currently have a m1210 without AV Package but now with an AUO LCD" Yup!

It's not surprising & I have even posted comparison pics of both the 700m AUO & M1210 AUO screens in this other thread. I'm also sure that quite a number of people are not impressed with me about that & feel that I complained too much on this issue but I'm just trying to show what I mean when I said earlier that the 700m/710m LCDs are a lot better in terms of light leakage. I guess most people will only believe it when they actually come across both the 700m/710m & M1210 screens.

Anyway, despite this minor glitch, I'll still have to say that the M1210 is a great machine & anyone considering it shouldn't look too much into this light leakage issue. Let's all hope that in the near future, Dell will have a new version 2 LCD for the M1210 that is similar to the 700m/710m.

It will be great to see comparison pics between the AUO, Samsung & Toshiba.

MrSmileyJr, you might want to note that using the 710m AUO screen on the M1210 will require the inverter swap as well that another forum member has mentioned. The brightness levels may also be different. I'll be anxiously waiting for your good news on the experiment. Though I'm initially not too keen on doing this swap myself.... but who knows, maybe I'll follow suit if you're successful. Good luck.

Truth is, the light leakage is not my main gripe - its something that should not be happening regardless. What I'm really annoyed about is the viewing angle. What I will be trying to confirm is whether the 710m lcd is the w02 auo screen and the m1210 is the w01 and w03 ==> according to the AUO site, the viewing angle for the w02 = 130/100 vs 80/60 for the other two. That is basically what causes a general washed out feeling - but light leakage is unacceptable regardless of the viewing angle. when I take my machines apart we'll be a little more enlightened in how to deal with this Update: I have documented more or less exact instructions on how to fix the screen on the m1210. The AUO on the M1210 are all B121EW03. There are versions Rev A00 & X21. Another interesting thing is that some are made in china while the others are made in taiwan. All of them looks the same quality though.

Order Date - 09/08/06
LCD Manufacturer - AUO3214
AV Package

The screen still has problems. Black does not look like Black! My 710m has a much better screen, this xps m1210 is going back to Dell.
