Did, and You have to turn off power mixer, and .. actually im to lazy to keep turinng that on and off... I wounder if dell knows that, that is a solution... I think i should call them and try to get the AUO, just.. because its better....

Btw, i put all my dell cd's in the XPS case, and when it came time for me to use them, they were ALLL SCRATCHED UP!!!!, so do you think dell will replace them?

This makes me , LUCKLEY, i backup the recovery partition with Ghost, and that worked perfect when i restored it.

I just called Dell regarding the matter, I'm thoroughly confused.

The guy said that all LCD's are manufactured by Dell, not Samsung or Toshiba. I told him that the M1210's with AV packages come with fairly decent screens, while the systems without the AV package tend to come with others.

He spoke to a tech who said that the problems with flickering were corrected, and that my laptop will be fine.

He also started going into different types of LCD screens (truelife?, etc).. He assured me that my laptop is coming with the same screen that is used with the AV package system.

Does this mean I get the AUO3214? He was sure that I would get the same screen that the AV package sytems come with...

What do I do? Do I call back?

My laptop ships soon, I don't want a crappy screen.

Should I call back and pay the $100 for the AV package? Do I try and call again?

yes... you will need to invest $100 for the av packaget to get a reasonable screen - not good - but better than alternatives.

Smiley,
Thanks. I'll call in and add the AV package tonight. I'd never use the webcam, but I really don't want to deal with a return. I'll pay the $100.

It's worth it to get the AUO screen. Still not the greatest (compared to my 700M) but it's acceptable.

I have the LCD58E.

Do you think its worth bitching with Dell to get it replaced?
I dont have the AV (thats the webcam right?). And i dont want a webcam. But i guess i could try to get it replaced to a Samsung. Is it worth it?

theres a noticeable difference going from the LCD58E to the SEC3157 but not enough to go through the trouble of replacing the screen. But if you went from an LCD58E to the AUO3214 then hell yea. I saw an m1210 with the AV package and the differences in image quality was like night and day but I couldn't stop staring at that damn camera! It's ugly looking, flimsy and a total distraction.

Ordered August 31, 2006 Received Sept 18, 2006
Dell Canada, manufactured in Malaysia
Toshiba LCD58E3
No AV

No light leakage that I can see. No dead pixels that I can see. Looks fine from straight on. I'm going to be attaching an external monitor a lot of the time so I'm not going to panic.

AUO with AV package. Ordered 9-21-06.

Crappy viewing angles compared to other systems. Other than that, things are great.
That's the quickest!: ordered M1210 the 21st and received the 25th?

I have an AUO3214, but it is defective, and it is being replaced today. I hope I get the same thing, I love this screen! (well, aside from why it is being replaced)

Guys - I have the Toshiba and complained on the customer chat with a dell tech rep. He's sending out someone to replace it, but said I'll probably get the Samsung LCD and that they are tested to be working before they leave the factory. Is it even worth it to have this done? Any tips for getting the AV upgrade?? He says I have to contact sales or something?

thanks for the help!

By AV package are you guys talking about the integrated camera? That's the one I ordered for my wife's M1210 so I'm hoping its the one that comes with the nicer screen.
