XPS M1210 LCD thread. - Page 11

I like my Samsung. I think the only downside is a pretty narrow viewing angle. But seeing that the widest angle I'll probably ever need is one that allows my girlfriend and I to watch a movie together in economy class I think it will be fine.

Amartin56, how about posting some pics of your M1210 with the screen on at different angles. I've seen an AUO & Toshiba-Matsushita screen but not a Samsung.... Have been wanting to see one but no one has ever posted the M1210's Samsung screen. Thanks.

Dell has been out of stock of the screens, so I STILL have not had mine replaced.

Next day service my ass, Dell!! Geez! At least I can still use this thing.

how'd you convince them to give you the AUO screen? I've talked to tech support, cust care, and sales and nobody will give me the "upgraded screen" = AUO. They all just say I can return the laptop and order a new one....i really like this laptop just want a better screen that i feel i deserve!

so basically, any tips would be great

jenn has got the A/V package & A/V package comes with the AUO LCD screen. That's why he got what he got.

Amartin56, thanks for taking the time & effort to take those pics. In my opinion, looking at those pics make me feel that the Samsung screens are not that bad, even though there may be some slight variation between actual view & pics.

By the way, Amartin56, do you experience any of those flickering on the screen (that have been reported) while using your M1210 using the PowerMizer settings?
Yes, I get some flicker. But it doesn't bother me now that we know what causes it.

I have nothing to compare my AUO LCD to, but it certainly is nothing to write home about. It is by far the worst LCD screen I've seen on a laptop.

The only real problem I have with it is the viewing angle aspect...
I just hope I get my AUO replaced with another AUO. Logically I should, right?

I will be posting side by side comparison soon. But I dont see much diff if at all between them... Just auo is more reliable and no flickering...

I'm confused. Not much difference between the Auo and the Samsung or not much difference between the Toshiba and the Samsung?

Of course owning a Samsung I'd rather it be the former.

I've seen some specs that suggest the Samsung viewing angles are +/- 40 degrees horizontally and +30/-10 in the vertical and that seems pretty accurate.

Between samsung and AUO.

The horizontal angle is not so terrible... its the vertical angle which is damn annoying (even on the auo)

On the 710m, the auo has +-65 horizontal and +-50 vertical. Thats what I would expect from the XPS = Xtreme performance system.... ya right!!!

I have to say that this topic got me a bit concerned after I had ordered by M1210. I didn't select the AV package and didn't realize it could possibly effect the quality of my screen. Now that I've gotten my laptop and it's LCD58E3 I'm beginning to wonder if this topic over blows the issue a bit. The screen looks great and has no noticeable issues. I'm going to theorize that I'm in the midst of some serious screen quality aficionados.

Find someone who has the inspiron 710m. You will completely understand what we are talking about. I bought the 710m after I saw my friends and was so impressed with the screen. In fact, I chose the 710m over a bigger laptop because of the great clarity of the screen...

But then again... if you're happy, maybe it should stay that way.... what you don't know wont hurt u..
It's all about expectations. Prior to the M1210 I owned an Inspiron 7000 (purchased in Oct 1999 if I remember correctly....it was a real beast and cost me around $2800...things have come a long way) and an Inspiron 1100 (another heavy...this one entry level) I purchased in Jan '04. So of course the XPS is a dream machine by comparison.

Its not perfect but I think it's a nice package of form and function. Would I like a little more viewing angle? Sure...but the Samsung looks really good dead on and DVD's look great now that I picked up a better software package than what shipped with it.

No laptop is perfect...a lot of people like the Vaio SZ's...I can't stand that external antenna. But I digress...

Toshiba Can Be Tweaked

I had the 700m and 710m for 2 years so i feel for you guys. However, even the worst brand (Toshiba) can be tweaked to improve it's looks. You an always return it and hope you'll get the AUO but it's not always a slam dunk unless you're willing to get one with the camera which is probably the worst one i've ever seen. This means that you're paying $100 for an AUO screen which, IMO, is not a wise decision.

Just to clarify, I am currently looking at my AV Package included M1210 and it's replacement side by side, both are LCD58E3 monitors. So it is a falacy that you will get the AU with the AV package. I currently dont' know what to do I will be leaving the country for 3 weeks, will I still be able to get another replacement after the 21 days? Or should I just return both and lug my E1505 around...Deymayor you mentioned I can tweak this monitor? what would I do beyond adjusting things via SW. My gf owns a 700m so I def know what I'm missing.

Ok, Dell was here, and replaced my AUO with a Samsung.

(AUO is actually AU optronics - auo.com) Link to Products page

I like the Samsung - it looks way better to me. There is no "waves" of light at the top, no light leaking at the bottom like my AUO had.

Besides - it goes well with my Samsung battery and my Samsung DVD+/-RW drive! (TSSTcorp is actually Samsung)

EDIT: GODDAMNIT!! It seems to be flickering on the left side!
