exactly. I have Vista and am tired of nVidia's lack of decent drivers. COME ON, IT"S BEEN SIX MONTHS! GET YOUR ASS IN GEAR nVIDIA!

And a fart in Dell's direction for putting such a crappy screen in the M1210.

Got my XPS M1210 recently. Didn't opt for the A/V package and sure enough I got the Toshiba screen.

Oh my god what a horrible LCD this is ! I will probably have to return the machine just because of this crappiest screen I have seen in my life.

I got Vista on it, which doesn't help much either due to the very limited controls on advanced display settings provided by the NVIDIA driver.

Same problem here, my 1210 had light leakage over 80% of the screen, on top of that the viewing angles were horrendous and that is not an exageration, it was completely unusable.Looking directly straight on at the screen about the middle 10 percent looked good the rest looked completely faded and washed out. What a waste to produce such a nice looking notebook with the crappiest LCD ever made. For $1800 I expect more than a $25 LCD.Ive seen better screens on 40 dollar toys.

Will Dell try to charge me re-stocking fee if I return the XPS M1210 due to the really bad screen ? I am still very much within the first 21 days (received the machine just in the last 2-3 days) ?

Anyone have experience returning machines to Dell ? I would love to know your experience ?

I will wait for the Latitude D430 to be released and buy it when it is available ... even if it is more expensive.

Sorry to bring up this old thread. I was just too pissed off at the problem at hand so I just want to vent.

My M1210 bought at end of March 07, with the Samsung screen installed. The screen is washed out and overly bright compare to my co-worker's M1210 with Toshiba. He noticed there were some flickering on mine. Since I didn't really notice it, so I left it as is.

The screen started to make buzzing noise when I use battery and brightness was up to the 2nd from the max. As soon as I set brightness to max, the backlight buzzed and turned off.

This problem happens only when battery is used. Dell thought it was the motherboard issue, sent the notebook back, motherboard swapped. Came back, same issue happened. Call Dell again, they ordered a new screen for me. Notebook was returned again, they held it for 4 days, came back and NOTHING was changed.

Called Dell, they re-ordered the screen and dispatched next-day on-site service even my contract was Return to Depot. Screen was replaced with AUO, nice!! Thought problems were over... NOT!

My screen was buzzing again... with or without battery. It buzzed at pretty much all levels of brightness. I really did vent my frustration at the Dell tech (I apologized to the guy after). The guy nicely listened to me, and placed me on hold for about 20-25 min, he came back to check up on me once every 5 min or so. He ended up ordered a new system for me to replace this dreaded one I have now.

The new system will be newly built with the exact config, I just have to swap out whatever I upgraded to the new one, and send the bad one back. He estimated the new system will come in about 2 weeks like the usual time it takes to order a new system.

I will keep you guys updated on this problem here.

BTW, I am in Canada. Dell contracted Soletron as the service provider for Depot service. They are really bad... I just can't emphasize any more... The On-site support is contracted to Unisys, these guys are pros. They repalced my screen in less than 1/2 hour.

The buzzing is most likely the inverter.... I got mine about a week ago, and its the toshiba screen and buzzing away. Just bought another one today (price went down $300) and hope I will get a non-buzzing auo. - will return buzzer. Also will probably be replacing screen w/ 710m screen. Keep posted for complete how tos....

2 weeks has passed. Still no notebook at my door. When I checked the support history online, 2 items were ordered:

222-4767XPS M1210, T7200(2GHZ)1310-8628VISTA PREMIUM STICKER, INSP1

There is no shipping information (in Canada), calling Dell support didn't help either. They just told me to wait 2 weeks. I feel like wasting my time with my buzzer. I feel that I am much faster by ordering a brand new system.

On the side note, the buzzing seems to be produced by the speakers. As soon as I pressed on the right speaker area, the buzz stopped. Released my finger, buzz continued.

I have a buzing noise on mine as well. I thought it was my network card for I noticed it turn off when I shut off the card. Dell guy came out and swapped the card it was hard to tell about the noise with Dell rep and others in the house making noise. I only notice the buzz in a quiet hotel room. Anyway it didnt fix the problem but I never bothered to call again. I have had it about a year. There was a program that I found online called Right Mark CPU where if I ran it would eliminate my buzing noise. Im not sure why it does it. I have a screen that flickers as well but seem to have gotten used to it mostly. It only does it if I use the special Dell Media Center startup. Otherwise I set a couple options in the Nvidia Driver that eliminates the flicker in windows XP just causes a bit of battery life lost. Overall tho my dell has done well and been dependable. It plays worlds of warcraft on the road and thats mainly what I got it for. A year later tho you can get alot more for your money like any PC. I have read alot of problems with these dells screen and buzing on here. I think I experience a bit of both however I dont think any of them are going to cause any system instability. I understand paying for something tho you want perfect and Im usually that way. The older I get however the more things I overlook because that pickiness can drive me mad.
