XPS M1210 LCD thread. - Page 3

I wonder if they ship different screens when you buy it with a camera or not. Can people also state if they bought the M1210 with the AV package. Thanks.

there's an idea compujoe. I totally didn't think of that. What if Dell purposely shipped out better LCDs with laptops equipped with the AV package? If you guys have AV packages go ahead and edit your previous posts with "AV Package"

The Samsung I have is great (other than sporadic bright flashes - for which Dell will replace the LCD).

Well the only reason I posted because I just ordered an M1210 today without the AV Package and I hope I do not get the crap screen. I guess will just see what people are posting and hopefully get to the bottom of this. I would hate to send back my m1210 the first day it arrives just to replace the screen.

Don't you wonder whether the ones that have problems with their LCDs in this forum are the few and unlucky that got bad ones or whether many have LCD problems but we are the few and unlucky that can tell better? In my case it is hard to ignore a flashing screen but I only saw 3 people reporting the same problem.

True. they say ignorance is bliss. I'm sure there are lots of members on this board who aren't very tech savvy and couldn't tell the difference from a good or bad lcd. That's where this thread comes in handy.

as i said , i don't have any other xps to compare the screens , so :

Would you please describe me what's the most noticeable difference between the LCD58E and the samsung one?

greetings from Chile!

So are you guys saying that the AV M1210s get better screens? Or AV M1210s get worse screens? Or is there no difference, its just luck of the draw?

will they come out and replace your LCD?

I've got the bad one

I'm going to have to retract my praise of the Samsung. I wrote the previous post right after getting the screen replaced (should have known better), and had the flashing issues that others had described. I called Dell (actually on the phone as I type, on hold) to return the system. They asked if a replacement would do, and I said only if I could get the AV package, as it seems to come with the better screen for the same price (got the 30+12 deal). They agreed.

Yep. The Samsung screens may be even better than the 710m's but they have the bright flash - some say by design (which goes away if you have a secondary monitor connected to your laptop). I shipped my whole system to Dell last night because a very professional manager asked to take a look at it personally. They will not send it to the techs to replace the screen and add scratches - the will study the screen and she will replace it herself if she needs to.

I was possitively impressed by her interest and handling of the issue. She is also talking to engineering and QE to identify the problem.

man thats a steal! Certainly alot better then those $100 concession coupons they give you for not returning a laptop.
What would be a steal would be to keep the Samsung screen with no flashes. I think it is actually better than my 710ms.

AUO3214 with A/V. ordered 8th June, arrived 20th June.

wow i was expecting mine to be something else, tbh, since mine is made in china (i live in hong kong)

now we should also compare our benchmarks, startup/shutdown time etc

great forum, keep up the great work

Current Stats 7/27
AUO3214 - 10
AUO3214 with AV Package - 9
SEC3157 (Samsung) - 1
LCD58E (Toshiba) - 5

I find it intersting that no one with the SEC3157 and LCD58E has the AV Package.
