XPS M1210 LCD thread. - Page 4

Have had 3 monitors..

1st 2 were LCD screens, both bad..
3rd was SEC, with flickering screen..

Now awaiting my 4th..

Crossing my fingers.

With monitors you mean LCDs? What brand of LCDs? What do you mean by bad?
Sorry about that, was in a rush..

By monitors, yes, I mean the screens...
1st LCD had horrible viewing angles, and colors were terrible.
2nd LCD had about 4-6 dead pixels, dead center, as well as bad looking overall.

3rd had the SEC screen and flickered every 30 min or so it seemed.

Enough to annoy me and request a replacement.

Dell is trying to figure out what to do, but they seemed very aware of the flickering problem.

When I requested the AUO screen, they basically told me they had no control over what to send and to just wait and see...

So I am waiting for my 4th laptop, and hoping I finally get a good screen.

It's their money that's being wasted on Shipping these back and forth, you'd think someone would just send out what's being requested, and not "try your luck" as the CSR stated..

So far, waiting on Dell to make good, will let you all know.

Thank you for the good reply. I know of six cases of the Samsung's bright flashes that have been reported into their XPS helpdesk. I have spoken to them a couple times this week and they are aware of it and taking it very seriously to find a resolution. (remember the Support Desk has no immediate control on the parts being shipped) I am actually quite impressed at their HW support desk attitude this week so far.

WOW I have yet to see anyone with the m1210 + AV package equipped with an LCD other then the AUO. Not to mention that none of the people who have an AUO screen complained about it being bad.
that's pretty much bad news to everyone without an AV package huh?
There is also some bad news for AUO LCD owners... I found that even the same manufacturer is inconsistent when making the screens... My original AUO screen has the white a bit yellowish but the AUO screen on my replacement M1210 has whiter white & blacker black. I checked both the LCDs (AUO3214) & they are the same model as well as same date of manufacture. Both have the same following details:

AUO LCD details:

Maunfactured 06/25
Model No: B121EW03
AU Optronics
MADE IN TAIWAN (M1)

REV A00

I have this one...
Toshiba LCD58E

The viewing angle is worse than my olf IBM. Any way to guarantee the replacement screen is the AUO??
edit: No A/V manufactured on July 15.

Built 7/15/06
Toshiba LCD58E
No AV Package

Tech scheduled to come out and replace Monday

The rep also told me AV Package = AUO and non AV = Samsung, and that those were the only two

They offered to do a "capture" and give me a totally new system.

so it's possible to exchange the non-AV for a FREE AV m1210? and all you did was complain?

I have the LCD58E3 (Toshiba). Ordered 7/3, shipped 7/7. No AV package.

I called DELL and they would not replace the screen on my 1210 because "it is designed to look that way" and "there is nothing wrong with it". Whatever. They said all they can do is take the system back within 21 days. I said screw it and swapped LCD's with my 700m.

The swap was not too bad, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you know what you are doing. Unfortunately the inverters cannot be swapped so the brightness levels are not right - 700m's AUO screen gets too bright at higher settings on the 1210 and the 1210's LCD58E does not get bright enough on the 700m. The LCD58E actually goes completely dark on the 700m's lowest backlight setting. Another problem on the 1210 is there aren't enough backlight levels like there are on the 700m, i.e. brightness jumps too much between settings.

Despite the backlight setting issues I am happy with the 700m's beautiful AUO LCD in the 1210. This is what the 1210 screen should have been. Shame on DELL for using inferior LCD's in such a great laptop.

It is sounding like it depends what kind of tech you get and how much they know. The one I got made it seem like he was aware I wanted a diff manufacturer for the screen.

The first guy I got said "that is how it is designed" so I said I'd call him back and got a new guy.

I was returning it within the 21 days, and they asked me what it would take to make me happy. I took a shot, and asked for the AV package, as it seems to have the better screen. They said ok.

0o0o00o0o Promising! I have not recieved mine yet but might have divert to this method if the screen is inadequate. My system will not have the AV package so there is a good chance I will get the crappier LCD.

Current Stats 7/28
AUO3214 without AV - 10
AUO3214 with AV Package - 10
SEC3157 (Samsung) - 4
LCD58E (Toshiba) - 8

Currently your odds are:
63% chance of getting the AUO with or without the AV package.
25% chance of getting the Toshiba LCD58E.
12% chance of getting the Samsung SEC3157.
100% chance of getting an overpriced notebook from Dell. Just Kidding! or am I...
so, AUO3214 is the best?
Looking at the pictures and reading the descriptions, I'm almost positive I have the crappy Toshiba. I have to be at a perfect angle to get the right rendering, and since I was coming from a 700m to this one, the m1210 screen almost made me send it back and stick with the 700m.

When I get home, I'll run powerstrip, confirm my suspicions, and call Dell for a replacement.

Well, after dealing with Customer Service now for my 3rd laptop, I am being told I have to send it back, get a refund, and order again.
They told me they have NO way of knowing what is being sent my way, and that they could not justify sending a 4th one.
So far, I have been sent 2 crappy LCD's and 1 flickering SEC.
What stinks, is that I got the Laptop with the infamous 30% off code from weeks ago, and now I stand to lose it.
I asked if they could send a tech out since I have the 9/5 on site warranty, and they again said , "no, because we have no control over what manufacturer screen we send out"..

I can't believe there is no way around it.

Consider yourself lucky if you got your hands on an AUO screen, as it's becoming a quest to get them to send me one.

Any suggestions, hit me back!!
