tell them to upgrade you to the AV package which apparently comes with the AUO lcd by default. If not, do a full return and have them transfer the coupon code to your new order

Already went that route, I was told, we can't change components...
And coupons are NOT transferable..

Wonderful Dell customer service..

I have a replacement coming Aug 1st. and I have a feeling that its gonna be another LCD58E. If it is I'm just gonna keep it and live with it. No way in hell am I gonna do this 3 times. I'll just call Dell and tell them to compensate me with a discount and a concession coupon. I'll take pictures if I get lucky with an AUO.

I'll still want to wish you guys luck & hope everything turns out well for you.

Gah, I'm glad my M1210 worked out ok. I do have to say though, I think this little 12" monster IS pushing the boundaries of what power you can put into something so small. The thing heats up like CRAZY. It sits on my lap, with the CPU idling around 45C. That's nutty warm. By comparison, my M1710 CPU (same CPU - 2.0Ghz Core Duo) sits idling at 25-27C idle. I wish the M1210 ran a little cooler.

Gah, edited for correctness. I mean 44C or so. Install i8kfangui. You'll see. It just has a very high idling temperature.

Call back and get another rep..if that rep can't help you politely ask for one that can. Your under warranty..they can't refuse to fix your laptop..

Confirmed, LCD58E. I have a technician coming out next week to replace it. Hopefully the new one is better!

EDIT: Just to add to the database, I don't have the AV package and I ordered my laptop the day it went on sale, but didn't get it for a month. Something about them not having the T2300 CPU and they had to change to the T2300E.

Initially got the SEC model, but it kept flickering...so they sent me a replacement laptop with the LCD model. I requested for a new screen since it wasn't as good, so they sent out a replacement screen.

A technician came today with the SEC lcd screen...and god dammit it's flickering AGAIN!

ARG! it's pass the 21 days. But the flickering is worst than poor display quality.

Man... I am just not fully understanding all this talk.

I have the A/V packaged (ordered the first day) and I have the AUO screen. Even with this being the best screen, the AUO looses contrast/brightness/etc when the viewing angle is shifted off-center... I already think that that is bad enough, how much worse can these other LCD models be???

Does anybody have any shots of the AUO vs the other LCD models (under same brightness levels etc...) for some comparison?

SpeedwithJJ was suppose to post pics *hint hint*
Most Wxga screens look like crap...especially when you are coming from a WSXGA or WUXGA screen. However the Sony's on their 13.3 look way way better...I could see if this was on one of their business/general use machines..but for an XPS system I expected better..

I already posted comparison pics of the AUO screens of both the 700m & M1210 last Thursday night in the Dell Photo Gallery section. I've also posted the 6 & 9 cell battery comparison pics as well. Did you guys check the Photo section?

Just checked out the pic's in the gallery and that's the problem I'm having.

Trying to watch dark films on DVD is a no no, it's so poor! I have the AV kit as well so I'm guessing I have the "good" screen?!?

What are my options with this? Is it really just a case of having to live with it? I can't get over the fact my 5 year old laptop's screen I've just replaced is 1000% better than this bit of crap.

Regards,
Simon.

Seems like all folks who ordered the AV package got the Auo screen (unless I missed out some post)

Though I haven't seen the Samsung or the 583 screen, I can vouch for the Auo screen that it looks pretty good.
Bright, sharp and nice viewing angles. Better than most Vaio's in fact
The only laptop with a better screen that I have used is the Fujitsu S2110 (13.3") but it is not a WXGA and only a XGA screen
