Help with keyboard ribbon cable

I just took my keyboard off and the little white clip that flips up to remove/install the ribbon cable popped off. Now I can't tell which way it was on in the first place...I have tried to get it back on and it's just not working. Does anyone have a close-up pic of this part on the machine? Or can someone describe how it is connected to the black part of the clip so that it flips up and down to install/remove the ribbon cable??? Thanks

Judging from mine, it looks simple enough. With the keyboard properly oriented, the connector plugs straight into the socket -- no twist in the flex cable.

I wish it was that easy.. I tried for a couple hours before I destroyed the little white clip, packed the computer up and sent it to Sager..

Keyboard ribbon cable - can't plug it back in

It just so happens I'm now having this problem too. For the life of me, I can't plug the ribbon cable into the socket. It goes in a tiny bit, but not enough to make contact with anything or even stay in. I push pretty hard, but don't want to really force it. I've tried both with & without the beige plastic clip in place.

Should the clip be put in place before or after I attempt to insert the ribbon cable? What holds the clip in place? It seems really loose when I put in on the socket... Attached are two pictures of the socket for reference. Any tips?

Just replying to myself... I kept working at it, and finally succeeded. I guess the problem was that the ribbon cable isn't supposed to plug in very far... it goes a little way into the socket, and then the beige plastic clip goes on top and holds it in. Apparently that's how it's designed. I had incorrectly been expecting it to really plug in so it could stay there on its own. Oh well. It seems a little more delicate than it has to be, though...
