Hi all. I'm new here, and new to AW as well..

I was wondering, i've been thinking about getting a sentia laptop but would it do all the graphics/web design stuff as good as my laptop right now? or would a area-51m do better?

Well what kind of graphics and web design stuff would you be doing? Also, what kind of laptop do you have now and what are the specs on it. The Sentia can pretty much do anything except any hardcore gaming. Basically, if you aren't into games and you're looking to save yourself about $1000 over the Area51m, go with the Sentia. Unless you're a hardcore gamer or are going to be doing any extremely CPU strenuous tasks, then I would go with the Sentia. That's what I'm getting. Hopefully it will be here by the end of this week. Also, I would ask booga. He's had his Sentia for a while and has tested a lot of stuff on it.

I currently have a pretty good gaming desktop that i'm mostly using for downloading and games, not much on my laptop since it can't support most of them

my laptop's specs are:

HP pavilion laptop (I know, it sucks, didn't do research when bought it )
2.4 Ghz P4 @ 533 Mhz FSB
512 MB DDR 2100
60 GB @ 4200 rpm
ATI Mobility M6 @ 32 MB

Some of the basic programs i run are...

3d studio max 5, photoshop 7, cinema 4d, microsoft office 2003 programs, acid pro...

I have used Swish and Photoshop heavily and works like a charm. I still can't find all my Macromedia CD's and would like to load that up. As you can see from my web site, the design needs a lot of help.

The Area-51m is a great desktop replacement, and I even considered changing my Sentia order for it. BUt after tossing around my options and resaon for replacing my last laptop, I felt that battery life was more important. I also find myself resting the LAPPY on my lap without the need for a heat shield while in bed. My last laptop which had an Athlon XP 1.4 ghz ran very hot with what felt like a heat plate at the bottom of the case. The Athlon heat was bad enough that the skin on my lap lost sensation for 3 days. (Not exaggerating)

Your choice should be based on how you plan to use your laptop.

Have fun choosing... :-)

Would you be interested in working on a design together? Also, are you hosting your site from a computer in your home, or is it on server with a slower upload speed?

I realize its my choice, but the 'Intel Extreme 2' video card scares me... lol. Last time i used a intel video card was on my ol' crappy 4 year old Compaq desktop... which i used heavily for gaming too and it lived up to its charm

For the heat thing, my laptop have one of those problems too, i can never put it on my lap... gets too hot, a little hot is ok, using my legs as a heat spreader, but it gets REALLY hot... and fans are annoying.

As a benchmark of The sentia's abilities with regards to the video card, I like to fall back on the game Call of Duty as an example. It plays this game very well with out skipping or lagging. I find this to be an effective guage in the Intel Extreme 2's capabilities. If it is not enough the area-51m may still be an option. If Centrino and "advantages of it is important, the Voodoo may be a nice choice.

The web server sits in my daughters room and is also used as her computer. My connection is DSL with 768/128 speeds. The upload speed is the bottleneck and would like to upgrade it when the need arises. For now, traffic on my server is light and will stick with the speeds that I have.

I saw your offering for server space and would be interested to hold larger files for my server. I have too many usernames and passwords to remember to entertain the idea at this time.

Well if you're interested, it's free. You can have whatever username/password you like. No limit on file size, space, or bandwidth. Also, it's run on an OC-48 connection, so upload speed is far higher than anything I'll ever be able to download at. Just let me know when you're interested and I'll get you set up.
