Ok this is lame. I used both the 7900gtx and now have the 7950gx2 and believe me the 7950 is better than the 7900gtx. why compare apples and oranges. if you are going to sli two 7900gtxs than your an idiot. Why not spend the same money and get two 7950s Both cost the same. Second my 7950 draws less power and runs just a tad weee hotter than the 7900gtx but performance wise im running everything max and it spanked my 7900gtx. So if you are going to compare one card with one card its a no brainer. But if you are going to run sli than like i said, earlier run the 7950 in quad for the same price.

Umm 1 7950 is 640, and 440 for a 7900 gtx, so no they don't cost the same, by quite a bit.

Ooops sorry i was going by the $640 price of the evga cards when they both came out. I always by my cards the very first week when they come out. Its nice to see that they went cheaper.

I just thought it was kinda fishy, but I ran a stress test on my 7900gt in HL2, and put on net_graph during CS:S with all detail on, and it runs faster than 70fps... Pretty dang impressive. I'll just wait until the makers of FarCry up the bar with that new game they're working on, whatever it's called, and wait for Half-Life 3 before axing my 7800GTX SLI setup.

A kind of dumb question though... once in a blue moon, I do encounter a slowdown, mostly in Oblivion when there's a ton of lighting effects, or lit fog or something. If I were to INCREASE the AA and HDR type stuff, would it actually make it run faster since I'm in SLI? Everyone always says that having SLI is worthless unless you run high detail, so thought I'd throw that out there, even though I'm pretty sure I know the answer already.

I'm pretty sure that would slow it down. ANd that graph is bogus I keep saying it, they turned on more stuff for the 7950 thats why its a little slower but I assure you its more visually stunning.

My card is under powered by about 3k only hitting 8300 instead of 11k, and I stress test max everything at 103fps.

I ordered a new power supply so I'm looking to get about 150 or more once that gets installed.

7900GTX is a beast of a card, is it worth the 480, well think about voodoo when they had the dual SLI card for 499 with 32mb total ram. IT has its day for now but in 6 months will be just another to big fat card.
