The whole process of getting an Alienware was a very easy and simple process. I ordered my laptop on January 31, 2004. Since I ordered at night, I knew that I was not going to get any kind of response, so I waited until the following business day for me to confirm the order. After that I felt like I wasn’t going anywhere like it had been said in the forums that Alienware takes a very long time during its phase period. I then got all the paperwork by DHL, and I signed it, and then called DHL, and mailed out that day. I check my email periodically, and one day I got an email from Alienware stating that they did not get the copy of my ID. I wanted to slap myself for not including that. I did not have a copy machine at work, so at this point I was desperate. I went out and searched for somewhere I can make a copy. The nearest copy shop is pretty far away, and time was getting close when Alienware was going to close. So then I found the CBS network station that is close to me. I went to the front, and asked them if they can make a copy my ID. The lady ran up the stairs and then came back. I thanked her a million times because I felt like she contributed so I can get my laptop. I ran back home, and then faxed it to their offices. I called them up, and was put on hold while they checked the fax machine. They came back on the line and said that they’re fax machine was broken, but that I can send it through email (scanner, of which I don’t have), or fax it to another number. I quickly faced it to them, and called them and then they said they did not get it, and the fastest way would be to email it. I told them that I am able to use a copy machine at work, and so I will email it to them. I went to work later that day, and emailed it to them. The following day I got an email from them telling me that they got, and have verified everything and my order will now be expedited. I went to check on the status page, and I was on phase 3. I jumped in joy. This was on February 6th. The following week on Wednesday at 9:00 pm I changed from phase 3 to 4. It lasted like that for a week, and then on Saturday my order changed to phase 5. Then the following Wednesday my order changed to phase 6. I then quickly changed to phase 9, and that lasted for one day, and the following day it had shipped. It seemed as everyone else’s on the forum had the same thing happen. My laptop was shipped on a Tuesday, and it FedEx website said that delivery date should be for Friday. I think that this was the period in which was most agonizing for me. On Thursday morning I went on the FedEx page and it said that it had arrived at Palm Springs. I got very happy as I knew I was going to get my laptop. An hour later I checked the website and it said it was out for delivery. I rushed to my brother’s bedroom, as his room faces the street, so I camped out in his room. I was on his PC reading the forums, checking FedEx, going on CNN, and other various websites. When I heard a loud engine I got very excited, but sadly it was only a truck, or some other loud noise making vehicle. Hours passed by and I went on the FedEx website and I noticed that it said that my package had just arrived Ontario, which is an hour and a half away. I was begging that this was a mistake on FedEx’s part. I felt kind of greedy cause the site it was suppose to be delivered on Friday. Then it was 1:45, when I heard a loud engine and it was FedEx. I got so excited that I rushed to my front door. I was jumping up and down like a little school girl. Then the FedEx guy (my savoir) was knocking on my door. Now I was in front of my door, and I didn’t was to open the door right away because that would seem a little strange, right? I counted ten seconds and then opened the door. My savoir told me that I had to sign on line number 2. I then put my big black box on the floor, and got a knife, and performed a C-section on my baby’s womb. I opened it to fine my shirt scrunched up on a corner, and a slim notebook on one side. I took that out, all carefully, and laid that out on my brother bed. There is a cardboard separator. I then saw another smaller black box, and a cardboard box. I took them all out, and then I opened the black box, and there was my baby. I took it out and was astonished by how big it was. I took out the power cord, and connected it to the laptop. I will now start my review. I will use a rating system of one through ten. One being bad, and ten very good.
Design: 10
Who would not like this design? The curves, round edges, and the alien eyes. This laptop is not boxy, but very well rounded. I thought this laptop was going to very thick and I must very honestly say that it is not. Now I am a person whom likes very thing laptops. For example, my first laptop was a Sony Vaio, and that was 1.36” thick. Later I got a Compaq N610C, and that was 1.3” thick. The difference from my Compaq to my Alienware is not all that different. I think that what differentiate this laptop to others are the alien eyes. Not only are they original, but they light up. This causes a lot of attention. Now don’t get me wrong I am not a person that wants to get a lot of attention, but I felt that this was something I wanted to be proud of.
Speed: 9
My Alienware for some reason just stays on the welcome screen for a good ten seconds, and then it goes to the desktop, but I don’t have to wait any longer. I can start doing stiff right away. It just seems like its stuck on the welcome screen. So far, the speed has been amazing, and this is coming from a 3.0.
Screen: 9
So I got the 15.4” screen, and this was due to money issues, but then I decided to splurge my self and get the 16” screen, but then I was thinking that this may delay my order more, so I decided not to. I must say that I am very impressed with the screen. At first I thought it looked a little retarded because it looked small and the speakers were below. Now I think that it looks very good.
Remote Control: 10
This is so cool! Now late at night I listen to music and I can control the volume, and I can forward and rewind. I can even turn it the computer off and on. I have to give Alienware props for that. Even though they didn’t invent it, but its still nice, and is not a feature seen in many mainstream companies.
Mouse Pad: 8
The mouse pad is sometimes a little irritating. The mouse pad was constructed for it to be to be used to as a mouse, obviously, and also a “slider” to go up and down a long webpage. This somewhat irritating because sometime my finger goes to that side, and then it starts moving up and down. This is something that need to be change like putting a raised surface, or something.
Games: 10
Wow, and I’m only playing Demos. Currently I am playing Unreal 2004, and I have got to say that it so beautiful. I cant wait until I get some games to real test out this beast.
Sound: 10
Now laptop speaker are not the greatest, but I must say that these are pretty darn good. I am very impressed and was not expecting much of them (4).
Heat: 10
So far I have not felt any heat. On my Sony Vaio, I remember it got really hot, and also on my Compaq, but not as bad. I do notice that the bottom does get hot, but I do not suffer because of that.
Overall: 10
This laptop is the good looking, fast, useful, and attention grabbing. I literally have fallen in love with my new toy. I anticipate being able to change the processor and the graphics cars, and the RAM. Now if you are still reading this it is most likely that you do not have this laptop because not even I would stay around reading this of something I already have. Pictures will come later, as it’s now time for me to have fun with my baby. Later.

. Then I discovered the joy of "overnight" delivery. Now whenever I order something computer related I usually pay extra for next day delivery because I can't stand to wait!
