what does this mean for Dell, who uses mainly Intel and NVIDIA's offerings?

I saw this earlier today and got excited, not sure what this can mean in the grand scheme of things though. Only time will tell

I liked ATI separate. Not a big fan, but competition is good for the consumer. I assume this puts nVidia in with Intel somewhat now which might actually be good for nVidia if the Conroe is all that and a bag of chips.

it sure seems to be all that and a bag of chips, and a soda

I'd have to agree. Conroe is a sucker punch to AMD, with the budget version performing as well or better than AMDs top of the line $1000 FX62. As far as the aquisition goes, it's a little sad to see competition going away, though I do prefer nVidia. Actually, the desktop I plan on building next year I plan on coupling a Conroe with an nVidia 8 series GPU. By that time, that may be my only option. Hopefully this will mean better integrated graphics solutions for AMD machines though. On the other hand, this could mean bad news for the E1505, which offers the x1400 as its best GPU solution. Maybe this is why they added the 7300 option? Still, could be a potentially good or bad thing for the E1505 and M2010.

Competition for nvidia isnt going anywhere, ati is still going to make graphics cards. Now they have greater resources, so Id say the competition between ati and nvidia is going to increase as well as amd vs intel.

My point exactly!! Nvidia is going to have their hands full with ATI now teaming up with AMD. As if they didnt already! Just think of the posibilities this could mean for us. I care a rast ass what video card or cpu powers my PCs so long as I am getting the best bang for my buck and the best gaming experiance that can be had! If you know anything about electronics or engineering this is a BIG deal. So, in the future, an AMD PC coupled with an ATI GPU should be alot more stable and able to play much nicer...in theory

Exactly! Wow, I'm shaking in excitement!

I won't be at all surprised if Intel buys Nvidia. After all, that's the American way of doing business nowadays. If you want a better market share or if you want to compete - you go shopping. Whatever happened to American innovation? I guess we won't know the ramifications of this transaction as far as we consumers are concerned until much later. Right now, everything is speculative. Could be a boon, could be a boondoggle.

That was my immediate thought on hearing the news, too. Which couldlead toaproblem of less choice for consumers - Intel means NVIDIA, AMD means ATI . Not good ....

Why is this news item under Dell 17" laptops?
