Just ordered E1705; I iz happy.

After years of wanting a laptop I decided on this... couple of questions though.
- When should I expect to receive this? I ordered this 7/25 around 1:00 AM.
- How will games play on this?
- Really HOW much crap do they install on this? Is a full reformat neccessary?

Anyways, check it out!

Intel® Core™ Duo Proc T2500 (2GHz/667MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache)
17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS
80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability

All totaled out with tax to be: $1,570.27

Thoughts? Feelings?

Congrats on your new rig - you will love it and it breezes through the current games. Virtually everyone here will recommend that you reformat to get rid of the Dell bloatware. Mine only took about ten days from ordering to doorstep.

Thanks for the responses!

Swordmazter:
I got the default warantee, whatever that is. I decided on that because there's already 4 Dell's in this house.. never a problem.

And also, it's a good thing I payed 10 extra bucks for that Windows recovery CD! So I plan to burn my wireless network drivers to cd or put on jumpdrive, then reformat with recovery cd, install wireless drivers, then download other necessary drivers (BIOS, video, etc.) Correct?

Hi Donnie, I ordered almost the exact same thing (+ upgrade battery and audio) but the price came to almost $1800 shipped. I used the $750 off coupon. Please share your secret. Thanks.

Congrats on the great deal

How much did you end up paying for the 2 gigs of RAM, usually it much cheaper to buy the larger Hard Drives and Memory from places like New Egg?

I strongly suggest you get the Complete Care added to the Laptop,

One accidentle drop, etc will more than pay for it, also you can extend the laptop warranty as long as it has not expired.

Just read the several posts in this forum about the users who had thier screens crap out 3 months after warranty ended, and having to shell out 600 dollars for a new screen.

Laptops are not Desktops, and cost much more to repair.

Hkgreg: I don't see how you ended up paying more than me.. honestly. But that's what I payed and I find it a steal. Post your specs for me and we'll compare real quick.

dave-p: I have been reading around, and I hear you can add complete care after you buy it? I'll do that with a paycheck I get after I get the laptop because I do NOT want to have to buy a new screen.

EDIT: And wow, it's already on the boxing stage and I ordered it about 12 hours ago.. is that typical?

I believe that Dell USA will allow you to add it withing the 21 days of purchase
then again if you have the basic one year then just add CC to it,

Dell Canada won't do it unless it done before shipping,

You can then extend the CC later to 2,3, or 4 years.
I usually go with 3 year, makes the re-sale value higher as well.

It maybe worth the Phone Call to Dell to clarify the rules

dave-p: thanks for the advice! I'll be adding CC as soon as it gets here. I'll make a phone call today with some questions I have about it.

I'm not sure what it could be, bro... Any ideas?

DONNIE & GREG: Since I'm in the market for a laptop too I looked over both your configs and found the following differences:

Greg is getting the Sound Audigy with HD Software - adds ~ $25
Greg is getting the 9-cell battery, Donnie the 6-cell - adds ~ $99
Greg's taxes are $136.10, Donnie's $44.27 - adds ~ $92
Greg's config lists an 'Environmental Disposal Fee' - adds ~ $8

That accounts for the more than $200 difference in final price. Hope that helps.
