I just got off the phone with Dell. My XPS Gen 2 had a fan that stopped working and a slight burnt plastic smell. The guy said it was a safety issue and wanted a permanent replacement sent out to me. The guy said I would get an equivalent or better ( XPS M1710?
)I was just curious if anyone has been down this road/know what I can expect.
In addition, I was planning on updating a couple parts on my next laptop (which seems to be happening sooner than I had anticipated). Does anyone have experience with updating components (maybe paying the difference) or is Dell stubborn in these situations? Would Dell even be willing to exchange my laptop for a desktop (cost of laptop transferred to cost of desktop)?
I'm kind of suprised with everything and I want to make sure that the replacement laptop is exactly what I want, not what Dell thinks I should get.
Anyone have any advice?
Thanks,
Aero
