3dMark

Well, I downloaded and ran 3dMark05 and got a score of 5903 for my M90. I was wondering if I should give 3dMark06 a try. It seems that 3dMark05 is more popular, why's that?

Also, what settings should I use to do a credible benchmark? Right now, I only use the default settings.

Yes, only do the default settings. 3dmark 06 will test your system for additional graphic stress and I believe starts at 1280 resolution as default. Your score will be much lower than 06, but it's worth running. I post mine in my info like many others do.

Uh, your score is quite low. As you can see from my sig, I did much better with less RAM and a barely faster CPU. I doubt I would get that high now that I have all my programs installed, but I don't see it going down 500 points. You might want to check something out. Also, it appears that Dell's drivers are best for the Quadro, though I'm using Xtreme-G 91.37 right now and they're working pretty well.

got 6255 stock on my E1705 with 7900gs + only 512mb

Oh yeah, give 3dmark06 a try. It will only give you a better idea of where your machine sits. For instance, the 2500M scores about 2000-2500 points better than me in 3dmark05 but only about 700 points better in 3dmark06. Plus, 3dmark06 is obviously the best test of performance on latest games.

Hmmm... interesting. So should I use the Dell drivers or the Xtreme G one?

I did have Ventrilo and Steam and such programs running during the test which could have affected my results.

Actually, games are much better to test with.

Well, I installed the Xtreme-G 91.37 2.50 drivers and ran the benchmark again. This time I turned off Ventrilo, Steam, and Trillian. I had 47 other processes running such as logitech's SetPoint, Dell Fan Control, Intel Wireless Framwrk, etc. and I got a score of 6230, which is still much lower than it should be.

Any advice?

That score is pretty spot on for your set up. Your card is essentialy a 7900 gs and thats what they score stock. You could get a nice boost overclocking it though.

Well, notebook_ftw got 100 more points than I did with half the RAM. His processor is a tid bit faster, but I still thought that RAM would impact the score more.

Also, I just tried playing Natural Selection (a Half-Life mod) and everthing looks really weird. Some of the text on the interface have a black background to them. Also, puffs and some sprites also have a black block surrounding them. Is there anything I need to tweak with this driver? Or should I just use the Dell video drivers instead?

The CPU impacts the score much greater than RAM. I prefer the Dell drivers for gaming.

Bone stock with Dell drivers, my 1710 scored 8375 on the 3DMark05. I am thinking about installing different drivers soon...just letting the newness wear off. It's hard to believe that there are so many complainers on this board...I love my Dell. I guess when a company like Dell pleases so many people, there's bound to be a few bad apples. I'm glad i'm not one of them!

Well, I'm back with my Dell drivers and the games seem to be back to normal. However, the 3dmark benchmark seems to still be around 6100 or so. Anything I can do to improve that?
