Some naive battery questions

Hi,
I have an Evesham C510 notebook, and I've been having battery problems since I bought it last year. The first battery lasted 3 months before dying completely. The current battery is about a year old and recently its capacity has dropped to less than 50% (i.e. the charge indicator will rise to ~45% but goes no higher). That '~45%' does not appear to be consistent either - the maximum charge seems to fluxuate. Also, the battery seems to be charging more slowly than it did previously.

I have the following info on the battery:
Manufacturer: ASUSTEK
Make: Li-Ion Battery Pack A42-M7
Rating: +14.8V - 4400mAh
Model: Z7100VP 24M

The battery is described by Evesham as being 8-cell but I used Battery Eater Pro program and it tells me that it is 4-cell.

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated! But my main question is whether I should buy another new battery from Evesham or if (and this is the naive question) there are other makes of battery that would fit my laptop?

Many thanks!

i'd take a look at ur psu just in case. look into Aopen systems if u can find another laptop as to get the battery, since Aopen makes Eversham chassis

Thanks for the response!
Is there any particular way I can check my psu without actually replacing it?
...on cursory inspection it seems to be working ok - power light on, warm to touch...

Thanks again - what will increasing the amps and wattage do? I know very little about this - is there no risk involved in mismatching the psu to the battery?

Cheers!

in my case it just give my laptop a bit more umph since i have loads of external devices. there is NO risk involved if u keep the same voltage and polarity (of course)

Well, the voltmeter tells me I'm getting the full 19V, so I guess that makes it the battery
