Toshiba P105-S9312!

This is my first post here. I have been lurking around for reviews of this model. I already know of the differences between the P100 model, and because of the 512mb video card I have decided it will heat up too much. I can live with a lower one anyways.

So my question is where can I buy this model?? I tried at Amazon.com because they have the rebate, but it says that the model has yet not been released. Anyone encounter the same problem? I have decided to buy it, so I would really appreciate some replies on this matter!

Thank you all.

Some local bestbuys have it in stock but not available for shipping atm. CircuitCity has them available for shipping. Hope that helps

DUDE, thank you so much! I didnt even think of circuit city, i am not sure why. I wanted to ask another question. Is it worth getting the protection plan? I dont want to get it, have something defective, and not be able to do anything about it. Protection plan is 250$, but its a lot of money, so some advice would be nice. Thank you again.

Always always get SystemGuard. It's no-fault protection if you drop the thing. FYI, the screen can cost close to the full-price of the laptop if you break it.

I've had two screens break: one because someone force-stuffed their parka into a overhead bin on a plane on top of my roll-aboard, and one because the zippers on my backpack worked their way lose and the laptop (in soft case) felt to the concrete street (ps always leave backpack zippers at the bottom of one of the sides, never meeting together at the top).

And always get the Toshiba protection plan, not the retailers. You can buy a Toshiba plan online within 30 days of purchase anywhere (but don't count on a break if you let the 30 days slip by by a day or two or even an hour).

Cyberbeach,

Thank you for your reply. So I finally decided to buy the damn laptop from Circuit City (I just just did it). I DID NOT get the Circuit City Protection Plan, following your advice.

Is there some link that you can give me to this Toshiba Protection plan? I browsed around their site but did not find anything by that name. I did find the SystemGuard you were talking about, but I don't think I will get that one. I am very careful with expensive things I own, so nothing should happen.

Now, if when I get the laptop, something is broken, will toshiba refund my money/fix the problem for free/replace the laptop/etc..? I know the laptop has a 1-year warrantee, but I heard their tech support is AWFUL.
I am sorry I am so ignorant, but I have never owned a computer, so all of this is new to me. I want the laptop to get here and see that it is ok (aka no problems). I just spent so much money on it. But if that is not the case, what would you do?

Thanks again,

Lionel

Just go to Toshiba.com and go work you way to the accessories page for your laptop and you should find info there. That or just call Toshiba and tell them you just bought this and want to buy the system guard plan.

I doubt Toshiba will refund your money, but they should fix most problems that could occur. There was just a thread someplace by a guy who dropped is notebook and did not have the system guard, and Toshiba is replacing his screen and all the damaged plastics and all he has to pay for are the latches. Sounds pretty damn good to me.

As g00nter said the protection plans can be found under accessories. Just ordered mine today for my P105-S9312

This is the one that I ordered. Full accidental damage protection, which means if I drop it or spill something in it Toshiba will fix it for me

That was is just an extended warranty. The one Pharoke linked to covers a wider variety of problems that are not really Toshiba's fault, and might not be yours either (like spilling beer into the KB).

Damn, these plans are expensive. After tax and all it's costing me like 2500$ total. Plus the 3M privacy anti-glare filter (70$), and two games (half-life 2 and Oblivion) it will be like 2700$.

But I don't want to get my laptop, have it break and then not being able of repairing it, so I will buy the plan just because you guys advice it. I am just afraid of their service. EVERYWHERE I hear they say their service BLOWS GOATS. But I still have a month to think about it right?

You guys think that I should get it anyways even if their service is so bad?

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.

Best regards,

Lionel

I don't find their service to be bad at all. I've only used it a few times and the only drag I found was waiting for parts to be shipped from Miami to South America (where I am) making repairs take an extra week.

I think that some people just like to bash Toshiba becasue either they know or have heard of somebody that has bad a bad experience. Fact is that Toshiba's are still among the best selling notebooks in the world. That wouldn't be possible if their service was really as bad as people on forums make them out to be. also reviews are kind of mixed, there was one from PC Magazine (IIRC - it was like a year ago) that gave them an A. The only others that recieved the same grade were IBM and Mac.

My point is that chances are you will be fine. If the computer has everythiong yo like then go for it. But as with any brand, make sure you get a decent warranty to back you in case something does go wrong. If the accidental coverage is too expnesive, IIRC if you purchase with a Visa or Mastercard, then the credit card automatically doubles the warratny and also provides some kind of insurance like this. You'd have to check with the credit card company for details though, but is something worth looking into.

Well all said and done I spent just over 3k getting everything setup. That also includes a new wireless keyboard and mouse for the desktop. For the laptop I picked up a G5 Mouse, backpack, surge protector, spare battery, extended warranty, spire pacific breeze cooler, and a Belkin N1 router. I am sure there is something else I got that I am forgetting

does this plan "Toshiba 4-Year SystemGuard + On-Site Repair + 4th Year Extended Service Plan" seem like overkill. I think its probably 450 with tax.

my P105-s9312 is too hot on left side, does anyone else have this problem?

Do any of you actually have your PS105-s312 at home? I have had mine for a couple of days and after about 15 minutes of use it is too hot on the left side to touch the keys for very long. I would like to find out if this is normal. I am trying to decide if I should have it repaired or exchange it for a different laptop while I still can.

A coupld of reviews said it ran this hot normally, but the CompUSA site said it was not hot??

Please help. Thank you.
