I'll get a measurement for you tonight...if you can believe it, my 3450 arrived yesterday and I've been so busy taking care of a medical problem with my mom that I haven't had time to even open the box!

At the front, the thickness is about 15/16". At the rear, about 1 3/4".

Thanks! .75 sounded way to thin!

I agree the .75 did seem too thin, can't wait for a mini review and pics from jth when he gets a chance to mess with it for a bit and report back to us...

The agony of waiting....

Hi all. I have never bought an alienware pc before, so other than all of the reading I have done on their site and stuff I have read on here, I don't know much about what to expect. I have been waiting for one person to post a review so I can ask them a bunch of questions and then I am going to make my purchase. I am very interested in the m3450 and I would like to know if there are any heating issues with this pc and also, if you got the 14" widescreen version, have you tried out the webcam yet and if so, is it any good? The webcam installed on the monitor is one of the key reasons I would choose this alienware pc over a different alienware pc, that does not offer the integrated webcam. JTH..... PLEEEEAASSSEEE give us the goods. I have been watching this board for like a week and a half now in agony waiting for your review. LOL.. I am so desperate. It kinda scares me that nobody has posted anything at all on this pc yet. Certainly jth isn't the first person to get one. Then again, no reviews could be good news. Most people post reviews is the pc is crap... so maybe that's a good sign. Who knows... oh wait... jth knows.. lol. Thanks for lookin out, jth.

Italianfemmy,

I too have been on the fence on this one but the 3450 looks like everything I have wanted and a bit more in a laptop so its been hard to not just pull the trigger on it, I know bax got one recently but his camera isn't working, hoping for a text review if nothing else from him soon.

JTH is local for me but his schedule between work and family matters (health issues with his Mom) keep him busy these days, I am hoping to meet up with him to see this in person someday soon once his schedule opens up a bit and I know he is dedicated to filling us in as soon as he has some time to sit down with it and go over the machine.

I know its hard but I bet only 10% or less of the 3450 owners even know about read or come in here to these forums, and with this machine rollout literally being brand new I am sure we will see some 3450 reviews soon.

I too tho am waiting for some input and pics and whatnot, my main questions are about the keyboard and touchpad, I have read a bit that the keyboard is "spongy" and that the touchpad is fickle even with adjustment still "touchy" so not having actually TOUCHED an AW lappy I am curious of others input and or if these issues are the same with the new 3450. Also curious of heat issues, especially with JTH's unit cuz he ordered the 7200 rpm 100 gig drive (same drive as I want) I think 7200's generate more heat curious if you end up with a heatplate on your lap after 5 mins or ???

Soon tho we will all see some reviews soon here I am sure tho,

Best wishes to jth's Mom (Ultimately that is the MOST important thing for him at this time) Bax, hope your enjoying the 3450, if so pop in and give us some text feedback if ya can, and of course anyone else with one if you make up a review link it in this thread so we can jump in and read up...

BTW JTH, was at circuit city the other day and saw that OGIO bag, man it was nice in person, they were having this buy the bag send in for rebate deal, it was $69 - $30 mail in rebate, I know I shoulda grabbed it, but it was red and I would prefer all black or silver/charcoal vs fireman red... NICE bag tho, liked the side slot for entry of laptop.

WHEN (unless reviews come in bad) WHEN I order mine I will grab the odyssey bag and post lots of pics and info on it from a users standpoint.

Patience, my friend...patience. I can tell you my webcam works just fine and is very good quality, the keyboard doesn't feel 'spongy' to me (although YMMV), I have not had any heat issues to speak of (although I haven't used it too much since Thursday) and she's very, very quiet. Oh, and blazin' fast! I'll put some pics and notes up tonight, scout's honor.

Thanks JTH

JTH,

I know I need patience. Lol. The laptop I am using now is a Dell Inspiron 5150 and apparently, everyone is having issues with this pc and I have been wanting and needing out of it. I promised myself I wouldn't buy another pc until I had read reviews on it and then, go figure, the one I choose has no reviews on it. Lol. JTH, I have you and your mom in my prayers and hope that things work out for you. Thanks so much for your input on what you have experienced thus far. Making me wanna push the button more and more! FTLO, go ahead and do it.. u know u wanna! lol
