I'll just post this here and if the mods want to sticky it they can.

Ok, hers's the story. For those who have had Sagers and especially the 88XX series, hard drive failures have been common at times. Blame was launched at Toshiba, Hitachi and Sager about faulty products. I even launched some myself. But after looking at the situation (I have over 10 hard drives in operation at any given time in my equipment) I've come to the conclusion that the combination of big processors, older design cases and only semi-adequate cooling has caused mostly heat related failures. So, after some asking around, the three year warranty on the Toshiba/Hitachi drives popped up.

Regardless of the original owner, purchase date of the computer, warranty purchased etc. your hard drives are warrantied for three years with pretty much no questions asked. I know there are many Sagers coming up on the three years so if you have any issues be sure to take advantage of this.

Segates are 5 year warranty

Toshiba's original warranty was only 1 year.
Which seems to match their life span in my experience (not just with Sagers but with a lot of other equipment with Toshiba disks in them).

My recommendation has always been either Segate or Hitachi.

I had both Toshiba and Hitachi in my 8890......both failed.....both had a three year warranty....

So both the Hitachi and Toshiba drives in the 8890 have three year warranties and for the cost of shipping ~ $6.00ea.....I have two new drives

I'd recommend that over buying new drives.

More info........now my 3rd. of 3 drives (I had 2-60G 7200s and a 20G 5400 all at the same time) has failed and the 8890 is 2 years 10 months old.....yeehaww.....free new drive again....at least both Hitachi and Toshiba have been great about it. Make sure to get these back in by three years if you guys have any problems.
