You can burn files to a disk several ways in OS X.
One, you can place a blank disk into the computer and when it mounts on the desktop you can drop files into it and tell it to burn when you're done.
Two, you can right (control) click on the desktop and create a "new burn folder" which you can dump files into and burn after inserting a blank disk.
Three, you can use Disk Utility to create a new disk image the size of a CD or DVD which you can fill up with files and then use Disk Utility to burn to a disk.
Four, you can use software such as Toast which will also handle audio and video and bin/cue files, etc.
If anyone here knew places to get software such as MS Office for free none of them would tell you.
