installing processor problem

hey guys i have a TOSHIBA EQUIUM L10-300

i was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to replace the processor on this model

i just took the laptop apart and the precessor was on the board under a black thin plastic sticker like thing. i peeled off the sticker and tried to replace the processor but it seems to be stuck to the mobo?

.. does anyone know if there is away to change the processor on this model or am i wasting my time

cheers for any help

most laptops have one from the 3 (that i am aware of) cpu locking mechanism. Screw turning lock, sliding plate lock or lever lock.
Screw turn lock = turn lock screw one-half turn counterclockwise - u should hear a light snap - to release the cpu
Sliding plate lock = use a flat head screwdriver, put into the slot marked open (or close after cpu replacement) and push it toward the arrow direction. U should (must) hear a snap when closing/locking
Lever lock = simple & straightforward as in most desktop cpu
Always use new thermal paste/tape with each heatsink/cpu removal
Review ur specs for maximum cpu speed (& type) allowed due to heat dissipation and bios

i'll look further for ya, but at first sight, i hate to say that u r stuck :-(
ur suspicion that the cpu was being soldered onto the mobo is probably correct

are you sure that's the cpu (it looks more like the Intel graphics copocessor)? what are the numbers on it?
The cpu should look more like this:

Notice that it's got a lot more "green" around it.

although i cant see you pic for some reason i know what you mean

i didnt think it was the cpu at first but there is nothing else even closely resembling a processor on the board.. it wouldn't be on the underside of the board would it?? sisoft sandra said the cpu was upgradable, im not taking that as gospel but surely the processor wouldnt be soldered in? i have never seen that before not even on my crap packard bell desktop which is like 8 years old

EDIT the new processor is bigger than that chip which also made me think i had the wrong component but like i said there is nothing else that resembles a cpu (i can see the pic now)

Ok. I just found a L25 teardown manual. Assuming these two are as similar as they look, then the cpu's on the underside of the board. Go to the second page and check out step 14 on.

you'd better re-apply thermal compound to your cpu, or you'll fry it next time you boot your lappy

You're using a 760 in there. If you'd put a 755 it sould have worked at 2 GHz no problem. The difference is that the 755 is a 400MHz FSB and the 760 is a 533 (both using 2mb cache and running at 2GHz). So using the 760 it downclocks the whole cpu to work in there (its kind of like reverse pinmodding, but without the little wire). I don't know of any way to get it up to 2GHz (other than swaping the cpu for the 755) becasue the laptop uses the older chipset that AFAIK doesn't support it. Maybe someone else can help.
