Can the video card of a laptop be upgraded? mine has a 128mb dedicated ram, could I upgrade it to a 256mb video card without having to buy a new laptop?

You usually can't theres a slight chance that you'll be able to, and if you can then your going to have to send it in for a newer motherboard.

Oh, well my laptop is a Toshiba A100-JH2, and the card is a Mobility™ Radeon® X1600, 128MB

Yeah, I'm 90% sure you COULD upgrade it, but I doubt you'd be happy with the small performance increase. The card you have is already very close to the best available, so IMHO, you'd be better off waiting for the next generation card, where there'd be more noticeable improvements. I could be wrong tho. Look for benchmarks comparing the 2 cards, to be sure, especially if they use the games or benches you're familiar with. Good luck.

Can you care to explain how he "could upgrade" it?

Well, unless I missed something, he said it was a card, not integrated graphics. I'm certainly no expert on laptops, especially newer ones, but I was under the impression that the point of having graphics cards, is the ability to upgrade them. Besides, as my last dying argument, I DID say, that I could be wrong.

The only way you'd be able to upgrade that would be by finding another card from another A100/105 and trying it. But I agree with another poster that the performance difference would not be worth all the effort.
