OSX on Acer 5672 - Page 2

actually...no... flykite is nothing more then a bricopak, and attempts to emulate and modify the windows gui, what i and others actaully did in this thread was install the Mac Operating system (OSX x86) on our intel core duo systems, not emulate, but put the whole operating system. as apple switched to intel based systems and our 5672's have simliar hardware. it is a easy install once u do a lil fine tweaking. but flykite is nothing more then some cursors, icons, wallpaper, and msstyle. it's doesn't even really come close to the full osx experience as it won't either, because apple would shut it down quick.

dave! keep your comments relavent to the topic. i don't know if you are posting just to bring your post count up or whatever the reason. keep it relavent. you overshadowing pathek on a post has no reason to be celebrated here. keep it pertaining to OSX i.e 5672, or within those bounds.

SOOO??? I caved, and bought a mac! mac mini, had enough fun running this impaired version of osx86, and decided to opt to one, well since bootcamp is released it made the idea of buying one less a novelty and more functional, and i plan to utilize it as a media pc, as well as use it with KisMAC to crack wi-fi encryption, but more as a media player, rather attach a 320gb firewire hdd to it, and store my music on there, instead my laptop, and slowly phase out my desktop, as i have 2 at work, and a desktop at the housen just isn't appealing any more, and having grown up in japan, i am used to small and compact and elegant... but i'll try and let u all know how the transition goes, as i only played with osx on my aspire for the last month, and has been my only mac experience since gradeschool.

Yeah, keep us informed, I really want to get one of these (perhaps on my next visit to UK in October.) Last time I saw them the price was £600, perhaps they dropped a little at the apple store. Good luck wth the Mac mini.

Did a video of OSx86 Running on my acer aspire, it's only about 4min, but i am demonstrating mac office running, umm, and just verifying that it is working, for the few that still aren't sure, just need to get intel 3945ABG Intel Drivers working, or check out the osx86 wiki and there is a list of compatible wireless cards where a person could purchase a cheap wireless dongle and use that, but i'll have my mac mini in a few days wonder why apple doesn't see that the osx86 project is actually bringing more customers to the .mac side of things. but oh well, check the video, enjoy!

Doesn't.... neither does the lan, or wlan, and the x1600 can be used with special drivers created, but then it only works with a external display, not with the screen, but i have no problem running the limited 1024 display resolution, it doesn't seem so bad, well not on osx, and this is a limited setup, for messing with, but it was enough to make me wanna go out and purchase a mini mac......side note wireless internet can work, i with certain usb dongles. but the built in 3945abg doesn't but there is a funraising project going on to raise money for a programmer to make one..so far 600.00 and counting. maybe eventually.....but somewhere deep in my heart i am hoping apple would make a bios compatible osx in the future, but it took 20 years to go to a intel chip...so maybe in my lifetime.

wireless lan works with the Dell 1390 card with a little bit of messing around with the code.

finally... was able to free up some time over the weekend. installed OS X (10.4.6) on my 5672. the install was pretty straight forward and all went well. wan, lan, and other devices dont work though. thnx Kinza for the link.

well had my mac mini for a few days, not bad, still some qwerks i gotta get used to like for one finding a decent browser took me a few days of trial and error, it felt like the built in safari was just rendering web pages way to slow, so i shopped aroudn but most i found were powerpc versions, which took even longer, but i dug around and find a specific version of firefox built for intel/osx that fly's and works with all my extensions, which is nice, visually this is all appealing, took me a min to learn simple stuff which i can not even think about in windows but had to give some wtf moments to in osx, like renaming a file, usually i just pop up the right click menu and type but not here, i had found out it was just a press of the enter key, so i felt kinda dumb for that, imma hafta download a keymap of shortcuts as that seems to be the chief way of getting things done quick in osx i expected some speed increases from running this on my 5672 and then here on the mac mini, even though i have basically same specs, 1gb ram on each, and stuf the mac mini with a 80gb hdd instead of the acer 120gb, and the fact my video card is integrated, in the mac mini so that kills 80-120mb of system ram for that. but i still feel like things just ain't as fast as on my windows pc, i mean i am bias as osx is new to me but i am getting it down bit by bit, and being as the mac mini is the lower end introductory pc, but for the 930.00 i spent i guess i expect speed like on my 5672, haven't loaded xp on it, probably won't got plenty of windows machines, don't need another and the torrent sites pretty much took care of any applications i owned for the pc but wanted for the mac, although not a big mac torrent selection, but the major applications are there, and there are enough seeders, but maybe once merom processors drop i can do a multi upgrade and bump everything to 2gb ram and 2.00+ merom's wtf am i gonna do with 2x 1.66ghz yonahs??? lol oh well ebay 'em but overall i find the mac to be worth the money, as the open source applications are immense on this, i know linux ppl will get there panties up because they get a free os, and larger opensource movement, but yea, i can see a use for it, but i just have never had it either then learning experience one but anyways overall osx not that bad need more intel based applications, as power pc apps...slow it down, mainly i'd like photoshop cs2 for intel, as it really takes a min to load, but maybe once merom's are out and i see where i am at, as i went overboard on toys this summer, 2 laptops, 1 mac mini, gotta get my bank roll back up, for x-mas. but yea that's my .02 on the osx
