1680 x 1050 how can you see anything?

With 1680 x 1050 resolution, what specifically do yuo adjust in fonts or settings or DPI to see and to make it so that your eyes don't feel the pain ?

What I do is have the DPI set to 120% and make the fonts - Large it makes it ok, but decreases my desktop real estate.

What do you do to manage this resolution on your laptop ?

You'll get used to it, but the DPI settings is definitely a good idea

Yes, change the DPI. If the text looks fuzzy, adjust the ClearType settings.

Unfortunately, it has a lot to do with the size of your screen. On my 17", 1440x900 looks just fine. If it gets really bad, you may just have to bump down the resolution.

1680 x 1050 on my 17" widescreen doesnt bother me at all.

setting the font bigger will make it ugly but you can see better

1680 x 1050 on 15.4" here without any adjustments. Default 96dpi and fonts/icon size. Cleartype turned off since I dislike the way it makes text blurry. I've tried the Cleartype adjustment site at Microsoft and didn't like the results, almost as bad as lowering the resolution and having the screen interpolate IMHO.

1920x1200 here, no problems after a day to get used to it. I did bump up the font size in Firefox a little. I just flipped back and forth with cleartype on and off and I have to vote on, the letter lines are too skinny otherwise.

I know, but it is annoying to do that every time. I changed the fonts once in my firefox and most of the sites look well, on occassion I have to CTRL +

I am more interested in windows settings as I want to have desktop real estate and readable and comfortable font size.

it's a matter of preference. I have no problem with 1680x1050 on a 15.4" without adjustments. but everyone I know has a fit when they see my screen.

1920x1200 on my 15.4 inch is fine for me. font size is at default 96 dpi.

I have that resolution setting and found that 106 DPI looked by far the best for me. Might wanna give that a try...

i think you're pretty much limited to changing the dpi settings. that's is exactly why i'm staying away from such high resolution - my eyes are teh sux.

1680x1050 on a 15.4" screen here and I can see it fine. I have really bad eyesight too. I'm used to high resoultions. More space to work with graphic design

Those who find it difficult to understand the difficulty some of us have reading 1680x1050 on 15-inch screens will come to understand the problem in a few more years... B-)

106 I'll give that one a go. By the way, what does DPI stand for ?

my G500 21" does 2048 by 1536. You could fit the blueprints for the golden gate bridge, full scale, on the desktop. Icons are about a square millimeter in area. lol

seriously, I run my normal desktop at 1024. I'm a soft. engineer so I'm staring at screens all day long, sans corrective lenses. Squinting at something for 40 years is hard on the fleshy equipment

DPI = Dots Per Inch.

What I find strange is that you want higher resolutions but you still want your icons/text larger and you're complaining that you lose the real estate in upping the DPI to do so. Surely there's only a finite font size that you will be able to read, legibly, until it becomes too small, before you have to start upping the DPI of the text/icons to balance it out? Upping the DPI to make things more legible on the desktop isn't a bad thing.

This still means you'll have that extra 'real estate' when using software that uses fixed-width graphics/bitmaps, or when surfing the internet, or for that extra non-pixelated smoothness during gaming.
