Hows does firewire get loaded....install fun

Ok I decidec to tempt fate with Mandrake 10 rc1 and see if it still hangs at the firewire probe. It does.

I'm wondering since the only way to get it to install is to use noprobe which disables everything. Big PITA. So, is there a modules.conf or something on the install CD which I can modify and re-burn to prevent it trying to detect the firewire (OHCI1394)?

I tried Gentoo again but screwed that up (misconfigured 2.6)

BTW:
8886 Sager
2.4 Ghz
PCMCIA wireless NIC
256 MB RAM

I'm tempted to just tell Morphix (Knoppix/Debian) to do a HD install and call it done. The Debian Net install CD doesn't load PCMCIA so no net.

Linux is fun

how about just a -no firewire or what ever it is. From the boot prompt.

tried it, didn't work. It still tried loading the ohci1394 modules and hung.
