Coaxial input guide for the m9700 - Page 3

I went ahead and contacted lifeview USA, and they answered my email by telling me I could buy the adapter from them for $5.

I passed this on to Alienware, and they responded by telling me they've got a solution coming, and to give them 24 hours to confirm. I'll pass along any info as soon as I get it.

I tried to rig up a connection, which seems to work kinda sorta. The only thing is, it looks much more grainy (even viewing through the TV) than normal. Is this to be expected? I also noticed that quite a few frames are dropped, making motion seem jerky (a good test is watching the ticker on CNBC).

It doesn't seem right, but maybe this is a common thing among PC TV tuners? I really have no idea what to expect, so if anyone could clue me in I would be very grateful!

A good tuner will look just like your TV, but i had problems with mine. My signal strength via cable is too low for my computer to read, but my TV has no problem. Try a friend's house or multiple connections in your house.

Yeah, that's how mine looked when I "kinda sorta" got something rigged up. I assumed it was because the connection to the input wasn't really good. That's why I'm hoping for a proper adapter.

I too am a VERY frustrated victim of the proprietary coax adapter nightmare. I agree with an earlier post...how can this possibly have escaped the tech crew at AW...don't they test this TV tuner card ??? The run around from Tech Support and Customer Service was enough to make me go back to ordering a Dell machine...

A large discount coupon on my next AW machine may change my mind...

As a posted earlier, I would probably be willing to make these cables for people if enough are interested. I would just buy a big roll of cable and a bunch of connectors. But I would say a decient number of people would need to want them.

I just resubmitted my question to them. They had marked the first one as resolved. I have a feeling they are waiting for Lifeview to get back to them or ship them the adapters (on the proverbial slow boat).

That's a generous offer, but I would really prefer for AW to make it right. I will keep that in mind if they come back and say they can't do anything but I don't expect that seeing as Lifeview are willing to sell the adapters.

I've just heard from the product manager of the mobile line from Alienware.

There was some confusion that led to getting the wrong adapter, but I was told everything is worked out now. AW will be including the adapter with future tv tuners, and they're getting a supply for those of us that didn't receive one in the first place.

In addition, AW is pushing their suppliers for future internal tuner cards to use standard ntsc connectors.

As soon as I hear when the adapters are in, and how we can get one from AW, I'll post here.

Thanks for the update! I'll be looking forward to the response to my inquiry from AW.

Hats off to Hammer

OK..very cool...how do you get the dancing alien in your messages ?

BTW...I received an email from AW about a "package" they are overnighting to me...could this be the connector for the TV tuner ???
I have a pending question about it and all I heard is that they are still working on it.

The dancing alien is one of the smilies -->

You can make the alien by doing :aw***dance: without the ***

Hello all,

Hammerhead is correct. We will be including the adapter on orders configured with the tv tuner very soon. Anyone who has already received their orders can call in and request the adapter be sent to them.

Here is the Knowledge base article for the adapter's specifications:

mALX affected?

Hello,

Not sure if I should be re-animating this thread after Alienware Steve posted, but here goes:

Will mALX's be affected by this issue as well? And, if so, will we be shipped the correct adaptor plug?
The mALX doesn't have the lifeview tv tuner in it. I don't think it has a tuner at all but you can use an external usb tuner to take advantage of MCE if you order it with the mALX.

mALX Tuner?

I guess i got confused, on the "Tech Specs" page, available here, it says that the machine has "Video in: Integrated TV Tuner (Antenna)" under the Connectivity section. Doesn't that sound like there's a tuner inside there? By the way, thanks for responding HH, from the amount of posts you've made on this forum I'm guessing you've helped out quite a few people.
That does look like a misprint cause I don't see the tuner mentioned anywhere else... but maybe I'm wrong and they come standard.

It should if it doesn't...

The mALX is a clevo platform though so they likely don't use the same internal tuners as I've never seen this complaint with any clevo platforms. The A51 7700 is clevo and they've offered the tuner in that for a while without any adapter talk.

Good question though, I'll ask for clarification. I'm sure if it does have one and require the adapter it will be included.

And I'm sure I've pissed off as many people as I've helped... hehe...

Yeah, I'm a little dissappointed by how this was handled. I was out of town so tried to email them to request the adapter. The response was: "In this case you would need to either contact our 24/7 Technical Support Department at 1-866-287-6727, option 2, or our Customer Service Department at 1-866-287-6727, option 3, so that the appropriate order can be created.", so I called Customer Service. After waiting on hold, a guy (who was a bit hard to understand because of his accent) told me, in a very roundabout way, that I needed to place the order through Tech Support. He put me on hold again then repeated a bunch of stuff to me before putting me through. Next the TS guy (in a different accent) made me explain the whole thing again despite me having been told that he was informed. After he went on and on about it and placed the order, I was told that the part is on BACKORDER! WTF???

Bottom line, I would appreciate being told the correct place to contact, the reps getting to the point and AW making sure they have enough in stock to correct the previous orders.

I got my system on Aug. 2nd and still can't use the tuner....
