Removal of HP recovery partition

I just finished making the recovery discs for my dv8000t*. Is it safe to reclaim that HP_RECOVERY partition now or will XP try to access files there periodically to function properly?

*Which is a crock of crap, if you ask me. They ask for 2 Dual Layer DVDs when the size of the data between the 2 discs would fit on two normal DVDs. Much cheaper, but maybe there's a good reason they couldn't split the data evenly.

Nuke it, use Arconis True Image, Or Ghost v8.3, or Ghost Corporate 2005 to image the hard drive...

You could use the above to make an image of the stupid Hp recovery partition as well.. before deleting it.

You can get an OEM copy of True Image with the purchase of a Apricorn EZ-BUS-DT*-KIT external hard drive .. for only $24.99.... add to that a 250 gig hard drive for $50 after rebate and you have a pretty good /cheap backup -imaging system.

I've posted links to the $24.99 deal...

I'd rather not even waste the space using Acronis (which is the best disk imaging software out there, BTW) to back it up. Will just the DVDs suffice? 10GB is a lot of MP3s!

i was just wondering this as well. Is there any software I should remove before nuking that recovery partision and replacing it wiht a linux partision

I used HP's recovery software to delete the recovery partition (It's in the instruction manual). It removed the recovery files and integrated the partition into the primary (C partition. My C drive now shows 73.5 G with a 1 GIG partition for Quickplay. I did that a month ago with no ill effect, but make sure you create your system recovery DVDs!

Thanks, MadMatty. I was about to use PartitionMagic (or whatever it's called now). I guess we can all assume that if HP provides the utility, as long as you made recovery discs, it is perfectly fine to remove the partition!
