whats faster core duo or p4?

anyone do any tests yet to see if the core duo procs are faster than the p4 proc?

Using a modified subzero cooling he was able to push the Intel 2.16mhz Core Duo CPU to 3.4Ghz and run a CPU intensive SuperPi 1Mb calculation in 17.75 seconds; which is slightly faster than the current world record holder by Tom Holck with a P4 670 at 7.2Ghz! With less than halve the CPU cycles the new Duo Core proves to be quite the performer!

Dual core is the way forward. Firstly, the old P4 will run hotter and consume more power than the dual core (as it's a slightly different architecture) and for day-to-day tasks there really isn't a contest between the two. The performance boost for multi-tasking is about 80%, the same as when you put an extra graphics card in SLI configuration.
Video encoding, photoshop, visual studio, any professionally made app in the past year should be geared towards multi-threading. Vista benefits from it and very soon, games will start appearing with proper dual-core support.

Unless you're getting a budget laptop I wouldn't recommend a single core processor any time soon

Gee, maybe the engineers at Intel thought about testing the two processors. I dunno... maybe they haven't thought that far ahead. I have an idea... why don't you go to www.intel.com and look around?

perhaps try www.google.com and type in 'core duo benchmarks' or 'core duo vs pentium 4 d' or something like that.

short story: core duo pwns p4 D(dual core) series

wearenotalone: yes dual core is the way to go.. but since p4s are dualcore now, thats already been established.. ie its not a dualcore is better than single core discussion.

Is this a dual core P4?

not if its HT, no.

aint heard of dual HT-core(ie look like 4 cpus in taskman) p4s yet..

That's what I thought.... OP was asking about the P4 650 ht 3.4GHz (800) he had..

^ thats an assumption. he could be looking at upgrading and the choice between a new p4 and a new core duo.

and what does op mean?

Why yes that's an assumption.... That goes without saying.

OP has in his sig a P4 650 ht 3.4GHz (800).... So he's most likely wanting to know how a Core Duo compares to it...
