Slow Burning

I have a dell 9300 with a dual layer burner. It used to burn DVD's at 6x. For some reason it struggles to reach 1x recently. Any ideas?

Well, check to make sure it's running Ultra DMA 2 mode, and not PIO.
Another possibility is that the read head is slightly out of alignment, causing lots of read/write errors and thus lots of retries...
