i started using i chat and i love it. is there any way to stay online when you put your computer to sleep? Also, does anyone have the website to get fire or adium.

Well I use AdiumX and you can download it from
http://www.adiumx.com

You can customize the Adium to look like iChat. Adium does not currently support video conferencing.

When you put the computer to sleep you're turning off everything but the memory. There is no way to keep anything active during sleep.

yeah pretty much....."sleep" is like "shut down" but without the "shut" or the "down" part....if you follow. So why would you wanna be "on" without being "on"...makes no sense.

Fire is available at http://fire.sourceforge.net/

i highly recommend you scour freshmeat for useful handy open-source programs you'd never think of before to opensource

Why is there a such thing as an away message then? You arent on, why make an away message?
You put up the away message when your computers still on but you're away for a moment, or when you just don't want to talk to people.

Get instant messenger to forward IMs to your cell phone for when your computer is turned off.

FTD got a point...if your celly has a built in AIM option, or its a smartphone/pda then just use that... 5c / msg (10c with t-mobile now ) its pricey...but doable.

Well the price varies depending on your service, for example for the crippled verizon phones you can get bundles of messages for a set amount.
