Just curious as to what areas I should upgrade. Some are telling me to change out the memory or double up.
here are my specs:

AMD Turion™ 64 mobile technology ML-37* for AMD64
1GB PC2700 DDR DIMM for multitasking power, expandable to 2GB

Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer

ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M IGP graphics with 128MB DDR dedicated video memory; S-video TV-out; Altec Lansing speakers

80GB hard drive (5400 rpm)

15.4" WXGA high-definition widescreen display with BrightView technology and 1280 x 800 resolution

Why do you want to upgrade? Is there a particular task that you want to do faster? Other than the integrated graphics, that looks like a nice system.

Do you already HAVE this machine? If so about the only area to improve that is cost effective is the memory... Going to 2 gig. PS: what does or double up mean? Go to 2 gig?

Check : http://www.crucial.com/index.asp I have no idea for sure. Most all ram within the same product range will downclock. In some cases ordering /buying a higher spec'd ram is CHEAPER (due to what the market wants)... you can sometimes buy a higher spec'd ram, install it and it will downclock to the lower spec..

BTW: What system are you talking about here? (model number)... and do you OWN one already?

This sounds familiar since we have been looking at something similar recently, aka - like configuring a DV5000, which gives 3 options to upgrade.

Processor
$150: ML-37 (2.0GHz) -> ML-40 (2.2GHz) Not worth the $$ for a minor speed increase.

RAM
$200: 1GB -> 2GB Unless you are really doing something memory intensive you will never see the impact. And, if you have to ask then you probably don't need the memory.

Storage
$25: 80GB 5400 RPM -> 100GB 4200 RPM Ahh, more is usually better - except it is slower so proceed with care
$75: 80GB 5400 RPM -> 120GB 4200 RPM ditto the 100GB

Though you don't mention it, there are a couple of options that are always worth it (to me). (1) - WinXP Profession and (2) Bluetooth
