Hilandarx...First, I got yr screen name worng in the related thread, sorry.
I know the Uniwill site refers to FLOPPIES. Juuuust a little outdated and so disgusting. First, make sure no peripherals are hooked up to your Alien and it is both on AC power and the battery is in; download the file to your desktop. Assuming it's zipped, open it; it should have an ISO file, maybe a read me file as well; put a blank CD in the optical drive; open Nero Express 6....
.....click on the option 'Disc Image' or 'Save Project'
In the 'Open' window, click on the 'Look in' drop down button and choose your 223 BIOs version file where you've extracted it 2.
In the same 'Open" window, click on the 'Files of type' drop down button & select the "all files" option from the list. Click on your bios ISO file to select it and then click the "open' button.
On the "Image recording-write a premastered image' window, click on the "next" button to continue.
Nero will burn the image to the CD...then you obviously click on'end' and then 'exit'
When I recently did my upgrade 2 1.07 courtesy of Bug (these instructions were in PDF file which downloaded from AW along with the flash file) I shut down my computer rather than rebooting it.
So now we have the CD with burned ISO file in the optical drive. Now, power on your Alien. I didn't have to enter bios screen to change boot order, but U may have to. Mine booted directly from the CD.
You should see the directions on the screen. If the Uniwill updates work the same as the AWs...U will get an A prompt. Type runme and hit enter.
The update will run and when it is finished, you should see the following message: "Flash ROM Update Completed-PASS.
Remove the disc from the optical drive and restart the puter either via 3 key method or turning it off and back on.
They recommend you load BIOS defaults after this update....you know, using the F2 key.
All this assuming the steps are standard and will work with what Uniwill offers....not that I am sure and since I am considering 1.10 from them, as I asked onother thread.....would luv anyone using any update from Uniwill to share their experience.
It really is pathetic that they are still offering instructions employing floppies.....givne most new laptops don't have floppy drives.
