Intel Vs. AMD

Thread Starter
Hi, I have been looking at many different computers, over the past couple months. I have almost picked one but, the computer has two models one with intel and the other with AMD. What is the difference between the two? Which one of them is better overall? Thank you for any help you may give.

To better help you decide, could you please tell us which computer models you are deciding between?

you can't just say one brand is better than the other, its about the CPU MODEL. One thing that AMD has over intel accross the board is memory management though.

and one thing that intel has over AMD is certain types of mathematical computation power. (Which is why nobody runs AutoCAD on an AMD machine. It is just much slower because the particular types of processes run much better on intel processes). But yeah, in general, we need to know which ones to compare them. Recently, I'd give the price/performance edge to AMD, but the new Core 2 Duo will really challenge all that within the next 2 months or so.

I still gotta say AMD, cause solitare will run smoother (isnt that why we all got computers....?)

Well, the two that I was looking at were the Alienware, Area 51 3500, and the Aurora 3500. Both have about the save specs over all but the Area 51 has a inte Pentium® D Processor 940 w/ Dual Core Technology 3.2GHz 800MHz, and the Aurora has a AMD Athlon™ 64 3800+ with HyperTransport Technology. So which of these two is better overall.

can i do an add on question ? thanks ( i know you all agreed.. )

what would offer better performance for now ? amd 64 3000 or a intel pentium d 3.2ghz ?

if i was to go with intel, is it possible to upgrade to a newer intel processor ?

AMD > Pentium D

Core 2 Duo is another matter.

or what you could do is get a really low intel processor and purchase a conroe chip and install it yourself. Make sure you have the right mobo though

The only reason why I would go with intel is if I GOT A KICK UP THE ASS
