i had a faulty hard rive in my aspire 5024 wlmi (not faulty from factory, but it became unstable and the drive hardware was malfunctioning). i called the customer support which gave me instructions on how to send it (yes i paid for the shipment). they replaced the drive and 4 days later i had my laptop back. a "negative" note is that they formatted the drive and reinstalled all the apps in a monoblock 100gb (more or less - that is, less as it was 93,1gb) instead of the original 45 +45 + factory hidden partition.
