Problem with Toshiba Satellite P10-802

Hi,

My laptop just started to shutdown intermittently, i've been using it for more than a year now. My friend has the same model and having the same problem we tried restoring it from the recovery disk but no luck as it shutdown without finishing the recovery process. I wonder if there could be a hardware defect with this model? we're having exactly the same problem. Help anyone?

can u locate when it was shutting down?
type of apps when shutting down?
only when battery plugged? only when when ac plugged? or both?
any change in fan noise before shutting down? bsod before shutting down?
did it restart itself after got shutting down? or must u wait a bit before restart?

shutting down can be caused by heat, bad ram, power. cleaning the heatsink can help. memtest ur ram.

The problem seems to be intermittent as sometimes it shuts down after 5 mins sometimes while still loading windows so theres no specific application when it shuts down. It doesn't matter if it uses the battery or AC and we even tried swapping AC adaptor. No change in the fan noise before it shutdown and it's not restarting itself, i could start it again but not sure when it will shuts down next which is really annoying.
yeah i was thinking there could be a hardware overheating, tried cleaning the fans and heatsink. Where do i get memtest?

This seems to be a common problem with Toshiba's of last year.
If I am not mistaken it is due to a shielding deffect that causes the HD to get smacked by static electricity. Two of the guys I work with have year old Toshibas and have had to RMA them at least twice each.

You may want to check the toshiba forum for some specific support.
