According to Crucial.com you can put up to 4 GB in the system. If you match the stick you have, you should be fine.

More ram may make a difference, but moving the swap file away from the OS hard drive volume will make more difference. The recommened configuration would be to place the Photoshop swap file on D and the system on C.

A faster hard drive would make more difference than more ram in my humble opinion.

could you please elaborate on the swap. in the preferences in photoshop i can assign scratch disks....how bout that.?

Scratch disks would be the same as a swap file. Windows uses one and PS uses one. They are used when the program(s) are utilizing memory and the RAM is utilized above a certain capacity. This allows the RAM to be used only for immedate data and those that are less urgent or a ways back are stored in the swap/scratch file for retrieval as needed.

If you have two programs pulling from the same drive at the same time, the drive will need to go back and forth to obtain the data it needs, slowing the read/write time. The best way to optimize would be to have two drives, but the second is to have two partition. I am uncertain of the exact reasons two partiations works, but it does, and there is a noticeable difference.

Hope this helps.
