Is there a new/current Dell De-crapifier?

Thread Starter
I heard about a nice program that can uninstall all the bloatware from Dell PCs called "Dell-decrapifier". The one I saw once googled tho mentioned years old Inspirion 1300. Is there a good, new, current and safe version for today's E1505 for example? I don't want to use something that will mess up my registry and give me BSODs.

Thank you, 1st post, love the forums

I just purchased a new laptop myself, and was looking for the same thing. I'll probably end up doing a format / reinstall, but I was just curious how well this software really worked.

I did find an updated version of the software at:

http://www.yorkspace.com/pc-de-crapifier/

It appears it was last updated 7/9/2006.

Hope this helps you, I don't have my laptop yet, it's been in "boxing" for the last day and a half!!

I would not recommend using the decrapifier unless you know the credentials of the person who wrote it and that it was tested for your specific configuration. And even then you are probably much better of reformatting. Not only will reformatting more completely remove unneeded software but you will learn how to reinstall everything so that if you ever have a HD failure you will be in much better shape to handle reinstalling your system. Finally you will also know without a doubt what was installed on your computer (since you did it all yourself).

If you do take the reformatting route be sure to take image copies along the way so you always revert back to a pristine system should it ever become corrupted, infected with a virus/malware, etc. You can use True Image or Ghost for taking image copies.
