Can an extra video card be hooked up to an Inspiron 7500?

Does anyone here know of any way for me to hook up an extra video card to my Inspiron 7500? My 8MB card is limiting, to say the least!

Nope. and the 2x AGP support on that old 440BX mobo isn't helping your cause either. Notebooks are formfactor designs; there is no upgrade, and no way to hook up a vid card externally to such a limiting form factor.

nope no way the only "video upgrade" is a matrox 2go but that splits up ure screen over other screen as a extended desktop

Thanks, DanFortH and aircool.

I know that the Inspiron 5000e offered a 16MB video card. I also know that one of the (former?) members of this forum said that he used to own an Inspiron 7500 that had an UXGA screen, like the 5000e offered. I wonder if the Inspiron 7500s that had UXGA also had 16MB vid cards, and if so, whether I could successfully replace my vid card with one, if I were to find one.

YES!!!!!!!! In fact they make a couple of PCMCIA video cards that run about 32MB up to 128MB to drive external monitors only... no internal solutions as I think that chip is soldered on the board... It would be cool if someone came out with a pcmcia upgrade gpu that can override the internal one... I think it could be done and it would be profitable (except to the new computer market)...

here is an exampe I whipped up real quick of the mac version...

Thanks, whackamac.

The chip on the original mobo does seem soldered on, *but* the replacement mobo I bought on ebay (my serial port connection had gotten messed up because of impact in a vehicular accident) has it just screwed in; I just now unscrewed it, popped it out easily, and popped it back in securely. So, my last question remains, although the external add-on option is very cool.
