Dell Wireless 1500 and Draft-N - Page 6

Okay I see...but it's still draft, so it might improve.
Did you answer no to all my questions? The wireless mini card "Dell 1500" will not fit into an E1705?
The card WILL fit in the E1705.

When I ordered the Draft-N card from Dell Canada's website, (the last week of August) I was like WOW!!!

....

It was selling for $40-$70 cheaper then the standard default 3945 Mini Card. So I ordered it thinking I was getting the best for the lest!

And now all I hear is bad news about Draft N.
does anyone have a list of other routers out that have this broadcom chip required? never been a fan of netgear.
thhe card does fit the e1705 and I took my network completly N wireless that included my file server and HTPC what I have discovered is that to get the advantage of the Draft N everything needs to be wireless or you are back at 100mbs for your wired stuff.

once I went wireless I am getting steady 270, though I havn't tested range yet

by the way I am using a Linksys router and PCI cards and the Dell Draft N in my M90

I highly doubt you're getting "270mbit." You're telling me you're transferring files at 30+ mbytes per second wirelessly? I've done tests with just my M1710 and my M1210 connected with the N cards, and I've never broken 3 mbytes/ second or so, even when in the same room as the router.

I didn't do through put tests to get total numbers, what I did was compare to my gigabit switch. fact is that even a gigbit switch won't get you gigabit throughput unless you enable jumbo frame support.

What I can tell you is that its getting me a hell of a lot faster throughput than my wireless G did and with that added speed it makes taking my complete network wireless a reality. Because I am tired or running lines all over the place
post #108 of 139
I'm interested in real numbers, because my N network is definitely faster than my old G network, but it's not mind-blowing in any way, shape or form.
well just based on the math a 270 mega bit network will only transmit 33 mega bytes at max speed and we all know every number used is based on a burst speed

gig bit lans that have to interface with a 10\100 router for internet access can't run Jumbo frames without a layer 3 switch to translate frames\packets. So your throughput on a giga bit lan is about 400mbs max without jumbo frames (and that is an optimistic number)

so for me atleast its all relative

Worth checking out if you get a router with Intensi-fi by brodcom.
234mb/s ! I'm sorry, wait, megabytes? What kind of hard drive do you have? Cause even my desktop with two raided 10,000RPM SATA drives can only hit 80-100mb/s...

Do you mean megabits? Cause that'd be 245mbps... which is about 30mb/s, which is AWESOME! I'm not even sure my laptop hard drive could keep up with that!

What software are you using to test bandwidth?
Not even professional reviewers have hit anywhere NEAR 234mbit. The number it TELLS you the connection is at is nothing to do with the ACTUAL throughput.

Heck, in that case, my wireless connection says 270mbit!

Belkin Pre-N Router

Hi,

After upgrading to the Draft N card on my 9400, I cant have the wifi access. And I am using the Belkin Pre-N router http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=184316

When checking on the google, a few user also reported the same thing. In such context, I am looking to change the router. Any model recommended ?

Hi Lugui,
from what I understand...the reason the Belkin does not work, is that it does not use the Intensi-fi chip. The Netgear WNR834B or Linksys WRT300N should serve you better.
Hope this helps.

Hi guy's I'm new to posting here but have been following this site for a week or so, I have a question:

I have a e1705 on the way with this card in it, will this card be backwards compatible with my existing Belkin router running my current wireless g home setup?

Thanks in advance for answering.

Yes, completely. I am currently using my E1705 with this card on my WPN824 (NETGEAR) which is a b and g router. Should work completely with zero trouble. You will only get 54.0 Mbps though...

Thanks Sniper, thats fast enough for me, I mainly just need it to transfer our towns wireless broadband to my home network so that should be great!

Gotta love a town that provides wireless broadband for $19.99 a month!

I am using the Netgear WNR834B Wireless Draft N router and I highly recommend it. It's the router that Dell recommends. I've already tried the Linksys draft-n router but I had problems with it. I'm able to use the Netgear at 130Mbit setting and it is VERY reliable. For some reason it doesn't work well at 270Mbit, I think I might be getting interference from my neighbors (i live in an apartment for now).

I can confirm the linksys needs to be in mixed mode to get the 270 connect speed

Hey guys I have the Belkin WNR834M Flavor of the draf N router, and in the wireless card program for the Draft-N Dell card, it shows my home wireless network only in 802.11b and g, no N is seen?? What do i need to correct this?

thanks.

I was getting worried after reading this thread, but I just hooked up my wireless network with the dell 1500 and the netgear wnr834b set at 270mbps and I went and copied a couple of 100mb+ files from my desktop and was seeing 14% and 7% low and an average of 10% usage on the network looking at the task manager. It seamed to be much faster than I have had with 'g' networks.
I had also updated the firmware to 1035. I can't remember for sure what the orginal firmware was before I updated. If I had to guess it was something like 1014.
