Dell Wireless 1500 and Draft-N - Page 3

I called Spare Parts. I used your order number (thanks for that!) and the lady this time STILL could NOT locate the card! Spare Parts still maintains it doesn't exist, or, at the very least, doesn't exist anymore.

I'm at my wits' end.

OK here's the OFFICIAL scoop.

I just spoke to THE man, Mark Lenning. Some of us (me included) will remember him from the 7800 GTX "fiasco" when all of us wanted to upgrade our XPS Gen.2s. He was THE man to organise the correct part for us. I believe this guy 100%.

He quoted me the part number, the price etc etc, but told me that they have NO stock available to sell separately from new systems.

The warehouse has told him 2-3 weeks on availability. If you guys want to speak to his team now, you can on extension 9571118.

Also, Mark said hi to us folks on notebookforums.com (yep of course he remember us) and said to e-mail him anytime at mark_lenning@dell.com

So there you have it. Now, we wait...

Yep, you sure did!

Is Mr. Lenning a Sales Rep, or a CS Rep?

TIA
He used to be a sales rep, as far as I know. I'm not entirely sure what he does now.

Speaks Proper English= Sales

Speaks English w/ Indian accent= Customer Service

Well, he's American and speaks proper English. Therefore, by your logic at least, he's in sales.

Some interesting reading for ya's to consider...

A recent review of such devices at Tom's Networking unveiled that draft-n may in fact be slower than 802.11g network connections under certain circumstances.
Those are VERY outdated reviews (over 2 months = outdated, especially given the firmware progression on the WNR834B, which Tom's review doesn't even cover).

Hey, I am not bashing the technology, I am very supportive right now of a mini-pci solution to getting MIMO technology in my laptop. I already have a Rangemax 240 router at the house and it would be nice to not require an add in card to achieve the higher bandwidth. Of course if you read the whole review, even the reviewer mentioned that the results need to be taken with a grain of salt. Nobody has a 'set in stone' method for testing these things just yet, as the nature of wireless technology is very inconsistant in itself. In any case, saying a two month old review is VERY outdated is a little overkill. Yes, firmware advances have been made in the last two months, but there is still no concrete evidence that any REAL advances have been made.

Reality now sets in and waiting for the 802.11n standard to be finalized is probably the best course of action (at least for me). I may try it out yet, as you supposedly can pick one of these Dell cards up for like 60 bux. Anyway, just my .22 shillings. Have fun!

Actually, and especially in regard to Draft-N, two months really is a huge amount of time. There have been countless updates to the technology in that time. You should read all the reviews of the Netgear N router from a few months ago. A lot of people were very unhappy. Since then, several firmware updates have been released which have made a LOT of people very happy!

So, anyone managed to order a Dell Wireless Draft-N 1500 card at all this week?
working on an order of 100

let me see what I can pull off.

The other problem guys is that Dell does monitor these forums pretty heavilly and once a part or part number starts to get hammered it usually goes the way of the doo-do
post #59 of 139
Thanks Bal'thzar. Please keep us posted. I'm in for 2 just as soon as you can organize it.

Just managed to order 2 cards through Dell Spare Parts. My order confirmation lists NJ449 as the part number. $61.95 for the first card, and $44 (approx) for the second card. I got a discount off the second card for some reason. I also asked for free next day delivery.

$115.45 including 7% sales tax for 2 cards. At last.

Ship date of August 18th (estimated), with a delivery estimate of August 21.
