Toshiba Qosmio G20-GS2

I just recently purchased a Toshiba Qosmio G20-GS2 from Online BestBuy. It was on special as a REFURBISHED unit for $1,999.95 plus an additional $200 off, which came out to $1,799.95 before taxes. I jumped on it since there was only 1 left online and i know they normally go for close to CAD$3000. This was an impulsive purchase as i was in the market for a nice laptop and i really liked the specs and the aesthetic appeal of this laptop. My concern now is:

1) Warranty, as i just realized there is only a Limited 90 day warranty on the unit and i didn't purchase any extended purchase plans. Can i get one directly from Toshiba or should i just buy one from BestBuy if i decide to keep this laptop.

2) My other concern is alot of my friends (hardcore gamers) said i should return the laptop and look into a Dell Inspiron 9400 since its specs nicely loaded is much better than the Qosmio and it has an awesome graphic card (Nvidia Go 7900GS vs. Nvidia Go 6600)

Currently, im undecided on whether i should return this laptop or not. I want something to meet my gaming needs as well as stay on a budget under $2,000. I plan on keeping this for the next couple of years so i want something thats nicely loaded on the specs. I need some sound advice and feedback guys!!

First, buy an extended warranty, it's an insurance just in case something happen to it. I took three years from Best Buy, they have a nice policy. There is no other laptop out there that you can compare to the Qosmio. It's a totally different beast. But if it's gaming is your main thing, Qosmio is not for you because this is an Audio Video Entertainment System, that's why they put a TV tuner inside...

this laptop comes with the Nvidia GO 6600 chipset. Is this enough for games like WoW?

WoW will run fine on this, mine got only Go 5700 with 128 MB VRAM and it runs quite nice...

1) You can not a warranty from Toshiba as the unit is refurbished by Best Buy

2) You can definately play games on it.

What price and features can you get from the Dell?

If you are not looking for MCE features, get something else.

Yes I just found out i can't buy extended warranty from Toshiba, and my only option is to get one from BestBuy. This laptop only comes with a 90 day Limited Warranty which im kinda cautious about. I don't think i'll be doing any hardcore gaming, but definitely be playing WoW. How good is the Nvidia GO 6600 on this laptop? I can get some pretty good deals from Dell for the Inspiron 9400 E1705 fully loaded with an ati x1400 or Nvidia GO 7800 for around CAD$1500 taxes in w/ 3yr warranty. Im not sure if i'll be doing serious MCE tasks either, probably watch movies on it, DVD rips, download songs. Like i said i like the aesthetic appeal of the G20 and i want something with a decent gaming platform but no too hardcore. I also want something that i'll keep for a couple years.

This laptop came out to $2,091.00 after taxes, and if i purchase a extended warranty from BestBuy i'll have to spend another $400 atleast. Question is, should i keep this laptop or look for something else with better warranty.

Ok call me crazy but i've decided to return the laptop and opted for the Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV650!!!

The G20-GS2 is honestly a beautiful laptop and im sure it would have met all my MCE/Gaming needs, but the fact that it only has a Limited 90 day warranty and its refurbished (even though it looks NEW) just doesn't make me feel good. I got the G35-AV650 for a really decent price NIB and shipped! US$2,200 to my door. What do you guys think?

Nice... Where did you bought it at that price? In Toshiba Direct it listed that at US$2999.99. You must be a very lucky person. Maybe there's a mistake???

Take a look at his first post, he said BestBuy online

BestBuy listed it as US$2999.99, how come he got it for many $$$ less... That's what I was wondering about...

Sorry let me clarify if i confused you guys. I bought the G20-GS2 from BestBuy Online for CAD$1,799.99 (refurbished) but decided to return it. I didn't buy the G35-AV650 from BestBuy. Lets just say i have my sources. If you check CircuitCity, they actually have it on sale for $2,699.99 but at that price its still 'too retail' for my liking. I came across a nice G35-AV650 for US$2,200 shipped and immediately jumped on it. I'll keep you guys posted on this and i'll be sure to do a review on it once it arrives.

So, basically you don't want to tell us where you bought it, Is that right? I hope it's not a scam, because it's too good to be true...

Instead of PM'ing everyone, the item number is 260015294159. Just enter it in the search bar on ebay.

I don't know if you guys have compared both laptops side by side, but for some reason i think the G20 (G25 in the US) has better aesthetic appeal than the G35 (G30 in Canada). The G20 has that glass surface around the keyboard which really gives it that VIP look. The G35 doesn't have this surface, but replaced with a more matted and non-glossy look. What do you guys think? Maybe i should just keep the G20. lol

Did you received the G35-AV650 already?

I saw this one but I did not like the speck of dirt...
According to him...
THIS is a BRAND NEW Laptop, it is complete as new but it has a tiny spec of dirt inside the screen...

Yes i know, but its still under warranty and i can always bring it to Toshiba Canada repair depot which is just near my place. Im actually thinking of keeping the G20 (G25) b/c its honestly nicer than the G35 aesthetically. I think Toshiba cheaped out on the aesthetic quality of the new Qosmio laptops, but the internal specs of the G35 really kicks butt!

The shiny piano-black finish of the G20 was a big selling point. I think they actually dumped it in the newer ones becasue it seemed to be a fingerprint magnet. Basically you had to wipe the computer down after almost every usage in order to keep in clean looking.

Isn't it the G35 that supports HDTV? If you're interested in that it may be something to consider, but the G35 is a newer generation computer and will perform better than the G20, especially with the CoreDuo in there (IIRC the G20 is a Pentium M).
