Insprion 9300: Changing refresh rate?

Thread Starter
Hi!

Has anyone been able to change the refresh rate for the Inspiron 9300? I have the Geforce Go 6800. It seems to be permenantly set at 60 Hz.

i dont think you can get any higher

I don't believe lcd's require a refresh rate any higher. I think it only applies to CRT's. But I could be wrong...

LCD screens have a different sort of timing structure than CRT's. True, the dots on a LCD do flash at 60FPS which correlates to 60Hz on a CRT. I have indeed heard of some LCD's that can produce 75FPS or Hz...

download this program called "powerStrip", ya trial version works too, I changed my UWXGA 9300 LCD refreshrate to 85hz w/out problems.

It really changes the true hardware refreshrate, I can confirmed that by playing games using vsync and fraps, also there is less tearing effect with vsync off in games.

Can you post a screenshot of your monitors properties page showing 85Hz?

I posted such a tweak a long time ago for my Samsung WUXGA. A side effect of this is that your screen becomes a tad brighter (or appears to be at least), making any defects (such as light leakage) much more visible. I went back down to 60Hz just because I was tired of seeing a horizontal white line across my screen and the terrible leakage (both defects of my Samsung screen).

Also, once you have selected your desired refresh rate in Powerstrip, simply copy the pixel clock frequency and use the Phoenix EDID editor to create a custom EDID and then use Powerstrip to upload that EDID to your monitor. This effectly reprograms the default refresh rate of the LCD and allows for that refresh rate in all resolutions without the use of Powerstrip. You must have a full version of Powerstrip to use the "Update EDID" feature though, I think...

no it doesn't change the value in monitor properties, instead it directly change the GFX card refreshrate in hardware, it's some kind of display driver hack. I was lucky that my monitor can take 85hz no problems, I tried 90hz and above it starts to show flickers and artifacts. So your results may vary, Try it yourself, research a bit on google and see what this program does.

the only reason to go higher on the refresh rate is to avoid flicker. since an LCD screen doesnt visibly flciker at 60hz there is NO point really
