Acer no longer provides system restore cd's??

Thread Starter
with my recent purchase of a few 3624's, i noticed that there aren't any system restore cd's. the last acer laptop i bought before this was about 8 months ago and it came with system restore cd's (also an aspire, but a 1640 model).

is this a new trend with acer? or is it just with these lesser expensive models?

as a micro$lop partner, it didn't matter cuz i was slapping XP Pro on them from the Action Pak, but still....where do companies (and i know Acer certainly didn't start this trend - i personally like to blame HP/Compaq) get off deciding that you PAID for an OS, but you DON'T GET THE CD'S!!!??? cheap *** mofo's!!! and then they suggest you burn a "recovery set"...yeah, i'll get RIGHT ON that LAME idea.

I have to agree with you on that one. When I bought my Acer 8104, I had heard that it didn't come with recovery CDs, but mine did come with them. And Acer was lucky they sent them too, because it wouldn't boot into windows until I reformatted the entire notebook. Once I used the recovery CDs, it worked just fine.

Who wants to burn CDs that should come with the notebook? Come on people.

I agree, but think of it this way -

Alot of people like to format thier computers, and they know this. The recovery disk they would provide would nullify the need for formatting, as it would put back on all the junk they wanted on in the first place.

No, as a consumer, i think it is a bit cheap. But then again, for the cost of a DVD, and 10 min, you have your disk- so... no huge loss.

It does suck. Especially since they put so much junk on their laptop to begin with. It takes about an hour to clear all that shit off.

I talked to Acer recently about getting new restore CD's. I got mine from Acer ONLY because mine came with it in the first place. According to Acer, their new systems haven't come with system restore cd's since late 2005. They informed me that when you first turn on your Acer you are given an option to create restore disks. THESE ARE TO BE USED AS THE RESTORE DISCS AS IF THEY CAME WITH THE ACER. and yes that is f'd up. They also told me that newer Acer laptops have a system image stored on the HD and that it can be accessed through the e-Restore feature of the system. My problem is that I now got the CD's and have no idea how to use it. Acer CS didn't have the right answers for me and wouldn't tell me anything else that I could do. Good luck guys with getting the system cd's made. I have a 9503 and I LOVE it to pieces, but until I can get my restore to work and my Acer Arcade back on board, it is just not the same as it used to be.

I just bought my first ever Acer, an Aspire 9113, and I'm also disappointed at least with Dell they give you the option of a XP OS disk so you can do the whole thing yourself if you want to.

Well, my system also came with restore CDs. If you want to use them to restore your system to factory settings, you just have to set up your bios to boot from the CD. Then put the first system restore CD in the drive and reboot. It will tell you what to do from there.

And just for the record, my system was messed up out of the box! It wouldn't boot into windows at all, and if I'd created recovery disks then, they would have been useless. Acer saved themselves a phone call right then, because I happened to have system restore CDs included with my notebook.

I have the restore CD's for my Ferrari 4005, but they don't seem to work. I reformatted the hard drive so the original 4GB partion is not there anymore. Did I delete all the restore data?

If so, can some one help me out. I want to restore my lappy to factory conditions, but I can't at the moment. I have email Acer, but haven't heard back from them yet!

Anybody have any advice for me on the above question???

Yep without the restoration partition, there isn't anything you can do.

So do I need to contact Acer and send the unit in to get them to put the files back on the hard drive??

Wow thats cheap! I guess I'm lucky that my 5003 came with them huh! I would prefer a xP disk instead though, But atleast the recovery disks are something...

Why don't you guys just get a hold of a retail copy of XP that matches the version that came with your laptop (i.e. Home, Pro or MCE) and use the key that came with your system to activate it?

It's not illegal as you purchased the licence from MSFT through ACER and you're using your key for activation. That way, you can just burn another disk with all the drivers you need and just reformat and install a clean XP and drivers, no bloat. That's what I did on my Dell.

Or better yet, drop XP altogether and get a copy of Vista. I've had Vista running now for a few months and I can honestly say that I won't be going back to XP.

There might be a little problem with that, I only know this from trying to do it with a HP desktop, it might not work. I had an OEM builders XP Pro cd and the HP had an XP Pro key. When I got to the part that asked for the key it would not work. Now when I used to work at compusa I had asked the guy in the tech department about this and he said that what manufacturers are doing are branding their copies of XP that they release and making the keys somehow only work on those branded copies. So I got a copy of that years branded HP XP Professional from them and it worked. Surprisingly enough the branded copy only added some hp logos in the System Properties tab and thats it, no bloatware. If Acer is taking the no restore cd route, i would think they may also have taken the branded xp cd route.

They have, I tried when I messed up my computer and had to low level format the drive.

If you're still using the labtop in its default partitions under Acer emanagement (i believe) or by pressing alt-f10 at your desktop, you'll find system recovery information. You can burn CD's there, if you're looking for a clean wipe, just alt-f10 booting up and it will take you there automatically.

Dont count on the Alt and F10 too much.....it doesnt work for me. Neither does the backup discs i made upon first boot. When I boot from cd, It gets to 89% and asks for other disc then spits it out. Now am stuck with a 2 month old laptop that does nothing. Having gone thro a number of threads here trying to resolve my problem, there seems to be a common theme, and that is Acer factory settings can be impossible to get back to. If anyoine knows how to fix my problem, al be more than grateful for any tips.

I recently bought a 9810 and it didn't come with restore disks. I don't remember it asking me if I wanted to make restore disks. I was having trouble making the disk but finally it worked. I got my girlfriend a HP fro christnas and they had an option to receive the restore cd's for 9.00. I boughr my Acer at Comp USA and they offered to create restore cd's for me for 50.00 YA RIGHT.
