PQSERVICE and NTFS issues

Hi everyone! my first thread as a new member.

I'v been reading forums on PQSERVICE, how to access it etc. and this is wat i'm still uncertain about....

Can anyone be very certain that PQSERVICE partition can be deleted? it's using the precious 2GB of space on my Acer Travelmate 4001. Wat i wanted to try is to 1) boot a bootable WinXP Pro CD (which i can borrow from a friend) and then delete partition PQSERVICE and C: which i then combine and format into NTFS C: partition. exit. 2) reboot with the Acer Recovery CDs (3 of 'em) and recover my Win XP Home.

Will it work? i can't afford to buy a new WinXP Pro software CD if everything fails.

I have an Ferrari 4005! Once I accidentally formated the Partion with Partion-Magic! No Problem! The Partion is for saving Images from the Partition I think, but I use Acronis and save the images on a DVD...If I formated the PQSERVICE I combined it with C:, it is no Problem. First I thought when I done it accidentally: "Oh my God the PC dosen´t start now!" But I reboot with no Problem! Since 4 month I havn´t this Partion, I have no Problems and 2 GB more HDD-space! And yes you can reinstall your Recover!!! I don´t know how it is to your Lappi, I have 2 Recover-CD´s with an Ghost-Image. This boots and than it plays that image back! A real Windows-Installation-CD I didn´t have to my Ferrari!

Tx Stronzo... just tat i heard bout bad things of not being able to boot with the recovery CDs when u deleted the PQSERVICE partition. do u know of any other software (possibly freewares) other than Norton PartitionMagic to make partitions? i'm still a student n can't really afford to buy tat piece of software.

One more thing, stronzo do u use NTFS on ur C: partition? will Recovey work on NTFS? i heard the ghost image is DOS-based n will not work on NTFS.

You don't need it if you're competent enough to make a backup image yourself.

However, you will need PartitionMagic to delete and merge the 3 partitions...then you can convert to NTFS.

I recommend Acronis TrueImage for making a backup of the single partition. This is what I did and it works fine.

Freeware? Sorry I don´t know...Maybe google for it "partition freeware" or so... I use my C: on NTFS...If I recover my System with the Acer-Ghost-Image the C: is everytime on FAT32...After recovering I change it into NTFS with PartitionMagic. As I told you, you have no problems after deleting this PQSERVICE!!! Yes and bighuskers hint is good! I use Acronis TrueImage to! I replayed my Ghost Image, deinstalled the Software I don´t need, installed my Software and than I made an Image with this programm!
