"Reinstall" questions

Thread Starter
Having reviewed the forum I believe that when my 8600 arrives today or tommorow, (ye-hah) that after checking the screen I will do a clean reinstall of xp-pro to optimize performance. I have experience with all of the Dell add ons and will not miss them.

Having decided that, I have NO idea how to go about doing this.

Yes, I am pathetic and I hope that you will take pity on me with detailed, idiot proof instructions.

Then you'd better hope it comes with a seperate WinXP CD because mine came with the Restore CD. That CD, when loaded, returns the computer to the same configuration (inluding many of Dell's programs, not all of them) as when recieved. If you have a seperate CD let us know. I'm sure someone else or myself would be willing to walk you through it.

mine came with the dell's recovery cd WHICH IS A FULL windows XP home sp1 installation.
It only install windows xp home sp1 with no drivers at all!

there's a second cd loaded with dell's drivers (essential)

and a third CD (crap utilities / programs / antivirus/ isp) stuff I didn't even bother to install.
