Okay, finally called up to put an order in and get prices, now, just need to get some opinions from you guys..the experts....

I originally planned on buying the ALX, but it came out to $6900 CDN when I did the configuration up,....too much..hehe

Then too get a cheaper one, I configured a 9700, up to $5000 or so. Now my question to you guys is, which one of these should I get or maybe another laptop is for me?

I am looking to use it for school, work and games(when i get the chance; I hvae two powerful desktops for that, but I like the games option on the lappy). I want to know what is the best laptop for me? is it one of these or another one?

Or should I be waiting for the new ones coming out in the fall? If there are ones coming? I have wiated like 1 year now, so its about time I get one.

Please help....restless..hehe...

Hammerhead said that if you really plan on being mobile with it, you might want to look at something smaller. You already have a desktop, do you need a desktop replacement laptop?

I'm getting a 5750 because it'll be my only PC in college, so I find it to be a good blend of power and portability, but you already have all the power you need for gaming in your desktops. Now you just need something portable, and I don't think an m9700 will be what you're looking for.

Sorry, I guess I should say that I won't be mobile with the unit, aside from it being upstairs where I study or at the most at work, I do all my schooling online now...what that change your mind? hehe...

I am at a lost.....my wife wants me to get a cheap dell...hehe...

I think the mALX is a bit much so I would go with the 9700 for now or maybe wait for core 2 duo to come to mobile desktop systems.

When is that core 2 duo coming out? I hear there isn't much of a difference in speed though...

I really don't know when Core2 will be coming to laptops, but Alienware isn't likely to any time soon (maybe next year?) and SPEED??!! even the mainstream models of the Core 2 Duo lineup can kick the FX-62's @$$ in several benchmarks! more here.

If you're asking about the speed as in the clock speed, clock speed isn't directly proportional to performance. To put it into perspective, I read on Wikipedia somewhere that a Pentium 4 (Prescott) would have to be clocked to 5.2 GHz (which is impossible without burning it) to match the performance of an FX-55.

Why not build a light desktop for upstairs? I mean laptops aren't as easily upgradable by any means compared with desktops. With Direct X 10 vid cards just around the corner, you can just pop a new PCI-express 16 card in a desktop whereas you'd have to send of a laptop to do it and it will be even longer before stable, high-performaning DX10 cards are available for laptops. Hope this helps some. And yeah, Core 2 Duo is the best out there hands down.
