A6T release in the USA?

So, I've seen specs for the A6T: Turion x2, 15.4" screen, Geforce 7600.

Is this machine, or any other like it, going to be available for purchase in the US anytime?

Rumors say it'll be called the Z92T in the US and it *should* have been released last month.

Any Idea on pricing?

Bump for pricing info also. What's the clock speeds on the GeForce GO 7600?

I pestered Asus USA's notebook support line and talked to a girl named Tina. She said their etailers should have them, so I hit all the web sites and none of them have it. She then said their inventory shows them in stock, so the distributors should have them. I don't have an account w/ Tech Data or D&H so I couldn't check to see if they did have it; they don't use Merisel or Ingram Micro for distributors. Something tells me if anything goes wrong w/ this laptop, it's going to be a PITA to get any warranty service on it :-P

Anyone see official specs for this anywhere? I'm curious how many SODIMM slots it has and whether it can take more than 2GB of memory...

It's now available: http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant...duct_Code=Z92T

I'll do a mini review this weekend.

Thanks for putting it up Ken.
Two quick negatives: only 2GB support (2 SODIMM slots) and PCMCIA slot instead of ExpressCard (although you could argue there are more PCMCIA cards at the moment).

No idea how their warranty works (stuck pixels, repair turnaround time) or how well the keyboard/touchpad work.

3 hrs battery life at 6.3 lbs seems decent and it has a Geforce Go 7600 at 1280x800, so it graphics should be pretty fast...

and why PATA instead of SATA? Doesn't that seem a bit strange (and already dated) at this point?

I'm assuming with these new Turion X2 processors, one would be able to upgrade this to the 65nm version if and when AMD starts releasing them?

No Turion 64 X2 stickers in stock?

That's priced just like the S96J. Dunno if I should snag this, or just wait a month for the merom to arrive.

Are the processors in stock?

Most laptops has 2 SODIMM slots, there will be 2GB sodimm available soon so you can go up to 4GB.

Or even better, get a Z96J w/ Merom (hopefully, they'll be available soon).
The Z96J has a few more nice features:
- expresscard
- TPM module so you can encrypt the hard drive
- 1440x1050 screen
If the Z92T and Z96J are similarly priced, it looks like a no-brainer :-P

It's more like between S96J and Z96J. S96J has no Bluetooth and Z96J has WSXGA, Z92T has DVI and 1.3MP webcam and there are AMD fans out there.

It's odd that the amd setup is more expensive than the intel setup. The B&M stores have always sold X2 turion notebooks cheaper than their intel core duo counterparts (so what in the word is asus smoking)..

The turion x2 is slower than the core duo at the same clock speed, and is quite a bit slower than the merom. If they stuck an express slot on this setup along with a 7900GS, I'd easily overlook the performance discrepancy for the price

For the price, quite hard to justify it considering the Dell Inspiron 1705 with it's 7900GS Vid card is available for around 1200-1300$.

I wish Asus would make a S96J with the 1280x800 (15.4 widescreen), BlueTooth, DVI, a 7900GS w/ 256MB VRAM for less than 1400$. Shouldn't have any problems gaming at the max res of the screen without issues.

Maybe it will run too hot, haven't seen 7900 GS in 15.4' notebooks.

What reference are you comparing it to?

Also did you not think of the 64bit capability?

The 64-bit is a non issue for me (meron suppots it also). If you haven't used the 64-bit operating systems (Redhat Linux, WinXP 64), the 64-bit programs running underneath them tend to use up 30%-40% more memory overhead (quite a hit especially when the program won't benefit much). There's a couple of benchmarks on this site comparing the X2 turion 1.6 mhz -> Intel Core Duo 1.6. The later was faster (and the merom is quite a bit faster than the Intel Core Duo per Anandtech's tests).

Does anyone know if the Turion x2's are socket-compatible with AMD's next mobile CPU?
