4GB of memory in dv2000z?

Has anyone tried putting in 4GB of memory in the dv2000z?
The official specs say it only takes 2GB of memory, but I'm curious if it'll recognize all the memory if you put in 2GB SODIMMs :-)

Don't think so...

Try it and then let us know if you blew up your system:P

4gb sounds awesome to me, you can NEVER have too much ram. Definitely give it a try and let us know how it goes!

The HP home line models address up to 2 gig The HP business has models that address up to 4gig

BTW: Haven't checked the prices of 2 gig notebook memory modules in about 2 weeks... but last time I checked they were VERY expensive.

You have more in the ram than in the laptop...

For those of you that are asking, have you priced them? If so and you've found them cheap, how about posting a link...

Yeah I wasn't even thinking of price, I think my 2gb that I plan on getting will be enough anyway but still, the more the merrier!

read thru this (short thread)

http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=161643

On that RAM, the 2gig modules are ONLY $776.95 a piece... two being needed...

So people... how many people here are going to be buying a set to use it their dv2000z?

Who here is going to order a set?

Actually, it's a future expandability question in case I find that running too many VMWare VMs eats up too much memory. Plus if I load up work stuff on it like J2EE servers, development environments, etc., it easily sucks up 1.5GB of memory (Lotus Workplace w/ Eclipse has a working set of around 2GB)-:

2GB modules will drop in price eventually. I was more curious if the hardware was actually designed to only support 2GB which seems odd since power users put 2GB in their machines regularly. The only official answer I can get out of HP is what their specs say, of course, since they're positioning the machine as a "home" machine...

The reality is probably when I hit that point in the next year or two, it'll be cheaper to throw out the machine and buy a new one that can support 16GB of memory :-)

why does dell overcharge?

2 gigs cost like 100-200 bucks

that 700+ price tag for 1 is absurd

Ummm.... 2 gigs if purchased as (2) 1 gig sticks is indeed about $180 for 2 gigs worth of ram... Each stick being about $90.

Thing is here these are modules with 2 gig per stick... which is a totally differant animal.... Much more expensive to mfg, very rare at this point in time, hence the high price...

PS: They were ALLOT more expensive.. being like $3000? for 4 gig's worth according to some posters within the thread I linked to.

That indeed is wacky pricing. It will eventually come down. I don't suppose there's a dv2000 w/ 4 SODIMM slots? ;-)

For some reason, a pair of plain DDR 2GB SODIMMs are only $600:

pairs of DDR2 2GB SODIMMs are $3K:

2slots /4 slots... Not having 4 slots is the problem... 2 gig chips being big $$$$$$.

is there more latency/lag by running 2x512MB vs 1 stick of 1GB?

same w/ like 2x1GB vs 1x2GB?

less bandwidth, but if given the choice, I'd get 1 stick so you can upgrade it later...otherwise, you throw both out; I haven't seen any retailers that give you a choice...they all give you 2x512MB :-P

what about running dual channel?

My main comp is dual channel 2x512MB

my laptop rite now is 1GB, but i MIGHT get another stick. ( I doubt dv2000t can run dual channel ) But will that make this laptop slower? I'm pretty new to the DDR2, and it seems like the DDR1 may be slightly faster because for example: the last timing 2 2 2 5 vs 4 4 4 12
